Good day!

My laptop recently started experiencing problems with the screen - it works for some time and then just turns black as if it is powered off completely. External monitor works just fine. I bought this laptop back in 2014 for around $1,900, which was exepsnive at that time, but I needed top specs. After just 2 years it hardly got any scratches on it since then - looks like new - as I am very careful with this. I brought my laptop for service, which I have been told would take about 15 days.

I intensively use the laptop in my work as a freelancer, so I could not wait for that and had to buy another Acer laptop S13 with similar specs (the only difference is that S13 does not have the touchscreen) for around $1,100 now.

After 10 days I got a call from service asking me if my laptop was still on service, which was not, of course, as it had just default warranty of 1 year. Then they explained me that the problem is in a little controller on the motherboard (which is what I also expected). However, as the motherboard is an integrated circuit, it is impossible to fiz the controller - the whole motherboard has to be replaced. The price of motherboard is around $1,150 (which is more than the brand new S13!).

Here is the question - just because of small controller I have to scrap $1,900 valued laptop (apparently it does not make sense to repair it for a quoted amount). What kind of quality and service approach is that? I do not manage to understand that this is real - I am sure there should be a way to get it back and running again without having to add 60% on top of the original price.

Any suggestions or advices are appreciated.
