Windows 10 Anniversary Update broke my Acer Switch 10 SW5-12

I am typing on my big laptop because I can't get my convertible tablet's touchpad or touchscreen to work. Not even a usb mouse moves without severe lag, as in 20 times across the mousepad to move an inch on the screen. I downloaded and flashed all the bios updates, calibrated the screen, restarted about 10 times (because it took about 6 times after the previous Windows update to make my touchscreen work), and nothing has changed. Acer care center says all my drivers are up to date. Given that a click on the screen shows multiple little circles in a vertical row and opens 2 or 3 different windows for aps I never clicked, it takes hours to do something that should have taken minutes. So no, Acer, the drivers are not up to date.

I already saw the note from Acer about another model having touchpad problems they were working on. I sure hope they are working on a fix for this model, but this one needs the touchscreen fixed as well. If anyone has figured out how to fix it, please help. I don't want to take my big laptop on another plane.

First the latest update (-4798 ) fixes a number of things including a jerky mouse on my W3.

Second they make handheld USB trackballs that can work very well.

Your system may require additional software, firmware, and/or a BIOS update to install and run Windows 10. Please note not all Windows 10 features may be available on all Windows 8.1 PCs. See the following qualifying Acer models. Systems not specified won’t be supported for an upgrade to Windows 10 in line with Microsoft’s regulations. For the following supported models, you will be guided through the upgrade process. You can also follow the step-by-step instructions to manually upgrade your device to Windows 10.

My model is on the Windows 10 list of supported devices. I upgraded the Acer Switch about December last year with little aggravation other than having to delete most of my software to make room. I had to buy a large SD card for Quicken, etc. I never had problems with the touch screen or TouchPad until about September this year, and only after Windows updates.

Sorry I missed that you had tried a USB mouse. My W3-810 had a stuttering mouse prior to the latest update (this week) and is much better now - have you tried that ?

You are fortunate to be on the list, none of my tabs (W510, W3) or convertable (Switch 12) are on Acer's Anniversary list. In fact the only Acer tab listed is the W1. Right.

Yesterday, that same update failed to install, but I noticed a partial improvement in screen and TouchPad response. So I downloaded and retried the update overnight. Voila! Good to go.

I'm sorry your tablets aren't on the list. I hope your plight will inspire Acer to work on making more models compatible. Thanks for helping!

The touchpad was fixed with today's windows update, finally, after so many months.

I almost didn't want to check since I thought the problems were solved so many other times only to find partial fixes. Those were undone by new updates. On Black Friday, I gave up and bought a surface pro 4 even though Acer had tempting deals. I just don't trust Acer after a Microsoft tech told me Acer still hadn't sent new drivers long after the Anniversary update. Right now, my Acer Switch is working. Not even a flashing circle on the right edge of the screen, the last to go. If it continues to work, it's smaller size will make it my choice for reading on a plane but not much else.
