UUUUUGGGGHH 

 

I REALLY REALLY LOVE this laptop and don't want to return but man. My CPU is hitting 100c EASY within the first 2 minutes of playing some BF1.

 

6 months ago I purchased an Asus laptop with a 970m and it never got close 90, god forbid 100.

 

Anyway, is this normal? Should I be worried? Maybe a defect?

    Sadly it's one of the drawbacks of the new Predators.

     

    And yes, it is worrying. I would contact support and ask for a replacement or consider returning it. Getting hot is a thing, reaching 100C out of the box is another.

    Well, I contacted acer on twitter and they said

    "We checked with our engineering team and they state the temps you provided are within normal range for this product. Hope this helps!"

    Best joke I've heard all year lol. Whatever. I'll switch it out for the razed blade or one of the asus laptops. Sucks cause this screen/keyboard combo is great.

    Yes, 100C is the result either of poor design/construction and/or poor thermal paste application. It's all but 'normal'.

     

    Another user asked about the difference between the G5-793 and the G9-793. Can you confirm if your model (g5-793) has g-sync or something/nothing else?

     

    BTW, I did not get the new Predator for this very reason (running hot in tests), now I'm waiting for less power angry laptops with the less powerful 1050 pascal GPU. The first batch of gaming laptops has been really disappointing for other brands as well.

     

    PS You should be aware that razors generally tend to run hot too (not 100C but still hot) and louder since they're thinnier.

    It does have Gsync and 75hz refresh rate. Such a shame man.  I'm really dreading returning it lol. Might just get a one year accidental warranty and hope for the best.

    You could go for a repaste plus undervolting.

     

    But it really sucks that a brand new laptop needs this.
