I am trying to figure out why my pen and touch has disappeared. I am unable to use this in tablet or tent due to no touch working. Should I download all of the drivers listed in the support for my device to get it to work again?

The first step is probably to fire up Device Manager and look to see if it is complaining about anything. You might have a corrupt or missing driver or you might have something wrong with the hardware.

I checked my device manager and I don't even see the driver for pen and touch listed anywhere. I don't have anything with the yellow icon next to it, so I don't know if I have a bad driver or not.  I'm in the Human Interface Devices. Would it be under hardware or software? When I went into the control panel I couldn't find PC Tablet listed. Now I havve no clue of what to do.

Yeah, there should be both a touchscreen and pen in the HID section (or maybe just a touchscreen). They often look to the system like a USB device, so a USB hub with an exclamation mark will often be the culprit. If yours isn't showing a problem with any USB device and not showing the touchscreen at all it's likely a hardware issue. If you are still in warranty, contact Acer supprt and they'll get you fixed. If you are out of warranty let us know and we'll look into a couple of potentially user repairable things. Either way let us know what happened, so we'll have more data for the next user with the same issue...

You could back up your important personal files and reset your PC.  But I'm not sure what operating system you're using.  Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.

Do you feel comfortable opening it up? If so you could take a first step and check to see if the cable has come loose from the digitizer. That would be the easiest to fix.

If you're using Windows 10, my advice would be to install Windows 8.1 to see if you experience the same.  Because I lost the touchscreen too with Windows 10 for some unknown reason.  I didn't bother to troubleshoot, I just re-installed Windows 10 to get the touchscreen working again.

You can get free Windows 8.1 in link below.  And your Windows 8.1 drivers are in second link.

    Or just reset your PC:

Ok sounds good.  If you need help clean installing Windows 8.1 or run in to any problems, feel free to ask.  Don't forget, you have Haswell, so you can't install any of the Windows 8.1 Broadwell drivers.

Okay How do I tell the difference between Haswell and Broadwell? Does it say that somewhere? That might be the problem....

I haven't tried the installing 8.1 yet. I'm kind of afraid that I'll mess this up. How can I tell what drivers I have? Is it listed somewhere? You're the only person that said something aboout broadwell and the other one.

Ok.  Don't worry so much about drivers at first, because Windows will automatically install most of your drivers for you.  When you first install Windows 8.1, Windows will download most of your drivers automatically.  It might take a while depending on your internet speed.  The main thing to check is to see if your touchscreen is restored.

If your touchscreen is restored, then you know is was just a bug that you were dealing with.

So don't install any Windows 8.1 drivers from Acer's website yet.  Let me know if your touchscreen is working after you install Windows 8.1, and then I'll tell you which drivers to download.

Make sure you backup your important personal files before you attempt to install Windows 8.1 because you'll lose them if you don't.

You can also try to install Windows 10 again (free) and I can tell you which drivers to install there too.  Windows will download most of them automatically but there's a couple that you'll need to install from Acer's website.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

It's also very important that you backup your important personal files, because you'll lose them if you try to re-install Windows 10.

    I should have mentioned.........

It's probably better to download the windows 8.1 drivers and save them to an external HDD before you install Windows 8.1.  Otherwise you need to connect to your router via ethernet.

So for the time being, you can download all of them except for the Broadwell drivers.  And then I'll tell you which to install when the time comes....

I just noticed that my monitor is a generic PnP monitor. I don't think that is correct. Do you think that could be the problem?

Generic PnP monitor is correct.  That's not the problem.

I assume that you didn't follow my suggestion.

I'm going to give you Plan B and then I'll be out of ideas (from a software standpoint).  Billsey can probably help you with hardware troubleshooting.

Step1: Backup your important personal files

Step2: Order your Windows 8.1 recovery media from Acer Store and restore your PC to factory condition.

    https://store.acer.com/en-us/extended/recovery/  if Alt-F10 doesn't work

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuljT0a8F7I

    https://www.youtube.com/user/AcerAmericaService/videos

    Step3: Re-install Windows 10 (it's free to re-install Windows 10).

    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37953/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDgzNzI4MDc5L3NpZC9mVVlxbWkwQWI5dTVrMTRTWm0zQUFraTVvNEJaWHpzdjUwVEVsdlZySDBoZXliRkRCWUxEWWI3SXFVY2tHV3lfU1oyVHVOaWFfQUlCNkI2MkpJY1FHdHdseEkydTlERU9scVd1bF9XRWVHdXpOT0VpZEg4THoxaFElMjElMjE%3D

I'm out of ideas.  Good luck!!!!!

Important Note that is unrelated to your problem:  Your model is Haswell-ULT, so you must make sure that you use the Windows 8.1 Intel Management Engine Interface driver (a/k/a Turbo Boost driver) when using Windows 10.  If you follow those three steps above, you can ignore this important note   Smiley Wink

Oops, I forgot step4 (the windows 10 drivers).

Step4:  Install the drivers that I circled below.

    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/5673?b=1

    54driverspt1.PNG

    54drpt2.PNG

    54pt3.PNG

Edit: Obviously you don't need to install the Virtual Buttons driver twice.  But those are the Windows 10 drivers your need from Acer's website for your Haswell-ULT Acer R3-471T.  Windows Update should take care of the rest automatically.  It's important that you don't install the Windows 10 Turbo Boost driver that is posted on Acer's website because that driver is for Broadwell computers.  If you try to install it on your Haswell-ULT computer, you'll have sleep and shutdown problems.
