XC-705 Randomly restarting.

I have an XC-705 which is just out of guarantee.

The PC is running Windows 8.1 and had been faultless until recently.

When using the PC no issue is detactable.

If the PC is left on, it will on random occasions, restart itself. But it doesn't shutdown first, it is as if the power has been cut, then reapplied.

On looking in the event viewer it is listed in the critical events and mentions about the power being removed and the PC not shutdown properly.

Anyone have any similar issue or any thoughts on it?

Regards,

Nigel.

check AC power cable and try another if possible, try another outlet plug too.

check dust on power supply too, sometimes can be a little overheat on it.

I have tried another lead and blown out the Power supply. Still no better.

I've had the same thing happen, but it wasn't due to a problem with the computer.  It was to due to millisecond power outages and surges.  Electricity is cheap where I live, but unreliable.

I bought a UPS to solve the problem.  I'm not sure if that will help you.

If you think it's just due to surges and not quick millisecond outages, you can just get a surge protector.

I had all my computers on surge protectors, but it didn't help.  It required a UPS.

Obviously, I have no idea if a UPS will help you since I don't for sure know what the problem is.

to check about spikes on electricty, you can connect a light bulb (incandesscent light blub) to the same outlet (with your PC connected too) and check if the light drops down when your PC restarts, if so...JordanB is correct, if not, maybe your PC power supply has some issues on capacitors.

    I suspect the power supply.

I have now replaced the power supply and it is still doing the same thing.

Any further ideas would be welcomed.

I think that is not the cause, as I have two other PC's plugged in to the same socket and they don't do it.

I have just updated the BIOS to see if that makes a difference.
