Acer Iconica W510 Windows 8.1 Reset Issues

Hi there,

I had decided to reinstall WIndows 8.1 due to the device being quite slow. So I obtained the WIndows activation key, downloaded and installed the installation media onto my 16GB USB, all was well. I then proceeded to go into the settings, update and recovery, recovery, remove everything and reinstall windows. When I clicked on that, waited for a bit and got a message prompting me to insert the installtion media and also saying "some files are missing. your windows recovery media will provide these files". So I went ahead and inserted the USB stick.

All was good, there was a Acer logo with the spinny circles and text saying "Reseting your PC    91%" But then after it reached 91% it stuck there for a bit. Then it came up with a blue screen saying "There was a problem resetting your PC" with a cancel button.

From here on I am stuck in a loop of being stuck in the menu with 3 options: "Continue", which tries to boot windows again and fails, "Troubleshoot", and "Turn off your PC".

In the troubleshooting menu, the first two options to refresh and reset the PC just give me the same problem of failure at 91%. In advanced troubleshooting, system restore doesn't work, system image recovery doesn't work and automatic repair doesn;t work. BIOS is protected with a password, which I have not set and do not know. Startup settings is useless, as you cannot choose any of the options as the keyboard does not work in that menu. Sometimes, the option of Using a device comes up, but that is also useless as when you get through the agreement, the program prompts to restart, which again leads back to the same menu with 3 options. Sometimes, the blue menu doesn't even come up, instead a popup prompting to restart due to an unexpected restart.

What should I do? Repairing using Dism in cmd doesn't work.

Thanks

First, this is the Android forum, this needs to be in Windows.

Second a w510 came with three recovery disks, two CDs and a DVD marked "system". Do you have these.

If you bought used (and the BIOS password sounds like it) then you could have anything.

ps does it always fail at 91% (blue screen) or just stay black. I have seen slower machines like the w510 (I have one) sit there overnight.

Mine is running Windows 10 Anniversary better than it ran Win 8.

    Firstly apologies.

Secondly no, I do not have any of the disks.

And yes, it always fails at 91% and brings up the blue screen. It doesn't take very long, around 15 minutes, no matter if its the full reset or the one which keeps user files.

And I'll look into getting Win 10 for it.
