I have a Huwaei dongle that I use on my laptop to connect to the internet. Is there any way to use this on my Iconia tab 8w_810 windows tablet?

Is it a Wifi, Bluetooth or 3G/4G type dongle? Is the laptop running Windows? Is it running the same version as your 810? In most cases if there are drivers for it it will work, though you might have to purchase an adapter cable to allow it to plug in.

    Hi

It is a basic dongle that I have had for a number of years, so I assume it is Wi fi 3g.  Both laptop and tablet are on Windows 10 (now) although the laptop was Windows 7 prior to the update.  What kind of adaptor cable would it be as I bought an on the go adaptor in order to transfer the laptop files to a pen drive and I cant seem to get it to work?

An OTG adapter should have worked, perhaps the one you got was faulty? Once you have a working adapter plugging the dongle in should get the tablet to grab the drivers, though you'll need to be connected to the internet via Wifi in order to download the drivers...

Hi. My otg adaptor works as I have plugged it in and transferred files to a USB stick so I am now confused as to why it doesn't recognise the dongle! I thought maybe a different type of adaptor might be needed but I don't know of any others hence my posting on here.

Sure sounds like it should be working then. Try this, fire up Device Manager and watch while you plug the dongle in. Do any new devices show up? You might be getting a non-functional driver loaded when the dongle is detected. If that's the caase manually installing the driver after connecting might be used to replace the non-functional one. Is there any chance There isn't a driver for your OS version?

    Hi

You have me at a little bit of a loss here.  As it is a tablet I would not know where device manager is and if the OS system is capable!

Even though you are on a tablet you are running a full version of Windows. The way I usually get into Device Manager is to open Windows Explorer (click on the folder on your taskbar) right click on the computer and select Manage from the menu. Device Manager is one of the menu items at the left.
