UBB ports on docking station not working

I have an acer iconia w700 tablet, the usb port on the actually tablet works fine, but the three extra usb ports on the docking station do not work at all. How can I solve this problem?

    Do you have the power plugged in to  the dock?  The USB ports on the dock only work if the power is plugged in.  (If that's not the problem, you may have a defective dock.)

    Thank you, did not realise the docking station had to be plug in as well. You have been much more helpful then technical support.
