Hello! I would like to upgrade my Travelmate P253-E (Pentium B960, BIOS 2.21) to something more powerful.

Is there maybe a list with compatible processors?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

For information, here are the original processors of the TravelMate P253-E series:

    KC.98001.DPBCPU.CORE2-B980/2.4G/1333

The motherboard is common to the Aspire E1-531 series but unfortunately the list is nearly identical:

Thank you very much! Smiley Happy

    I will try the i3 3110M.

I finished the upgrade but the system simply shuts down after ~45min of usage (or idle). CPU-temperature is fine (45°C) and the Ram is specified for 1600Mhz. I also tried a fresh windows installation with fitting drivers but the problem remains. Running the notebook by battery or power connection doesn't make a difference.

    Any suggestions?

Think I found the cause of my problem:

The Intel HM70 chipset doesn't allow i3/i5/i7 CPUs to be installed. "Intel has introduced an artificial limitation to handicap the unit by making it turn off after 30 minutes. It is a hard shutdown like when a system overheats."

    Hello,

Hmmm it's strange because I only have one motherboard for this model:

    1. Have you installed an Intel I3-3110M as you stated?
    2. You'll find a sticker with a bar code on the motherboard and under this one, there is a string of characters. Could you give the first ten? It should start by NBC1.....

    Hello!

Yes, I installed an i3-3110M and it shuts off after exactly 30 min. My bar code has the following characters: NBC1F11001312000

You have the right motherboard, TM P253-E, lastest bios and Intel i3-3110M. I don't understand.Smiley Frustrated May be a mistake in my data base but I checked again from a wholesaler website and it gives the same information. It's really annoying. I'm sorry.

It's probably a mistake in the database because I haven't seen anybody who could fix the HM70 i3/i5/i7 shutdown issue. The i3 3110M requieres a HM76 chipset motherboard.

So, is better to don't buy the i3 3110?

What I find: Sandy Bridge has Problem with i3/5/7 Proc.

    I have "Ivy Bridge" with

And also I find like my acer but with I3 ...

So, my question is can I upgrade it to "i3" ?

  • Hi,

Yes, you can upgrade but the benefits are minimal, if you switch to a SSD from normal HDD, it will improve the perfomance.

  • Hi,

Thanks for pointing out my mistake, somehow I missed that the chipset is HM70 Smiley Embarassed
