Acer R241Y - LED display or LCD?! Also bluelight filter

Hello,

I hope someone can help -

Last week I purchased the Acer R241Y monitor display, which is a 23.8 inch "IPS LED FULL HD" display. The box the monitor turned up in also said on front (with all the features like blue light filter and full HD) that it was indeed an LED display.

However, on the white sticker on the side of one of the boxes, the one which will say the spec and have various barcodes, it reads that it is an LCD display - it also says on the back of the monitor itself "LCD" - and I think it does somewhere in the OSD too.

What is the story here? I haven't bought an LED display ever before, I thought LED and LCD were two completely different things - so surely it's got to be one or the other? What is this particular model? Because the website listing (Ebuyer.com) definitely says it's LED and it says on the box LED - but on the main spec stickers on the box and equipment itself it says LCD. Have I been misLED?...

Also the blue light filter - can it be set to a timer so that it only comes on in the evenings? I wouldn't find it very useful if you have to set it yourself each time, especially as the OSD on this monitor is so fiddly!!

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

  • Hello,

All LED monitors are LCD monitors with LED backlit (white LED). The pure LCD has no backlit. As far as I know, there is no pure LED monitor... one pixel one cms led.

    Thanks for the fast response.

Looks like I was wrong about them then, LED is the backlight and a seperate thing to LCD (so you can have both)?

Of course! If you own a laptop with a LED display, when you were adjusting the brightness, you adjust the backlight/backlit. Idem for a LED monitor.

Thanks very much, I will give that video a watch.

Anyone got any ideas on the bluelight thing? I use an app on my phone which automatically comes on in the evenings to filter out the blue light. I hoped this would be on the monitor as a timer, but can't seem to find anything about it? (which makes me think it isn't)
