Have tried all the control/alt/shift etc combinations I can think of.

This happens with both the keyboard and when I use in tablet mode - I need to be able to enter #s

Had same problem. Try removing and reattaching the dock. If that doesnt work, open up 'device manager' and uninstall all listed keyboards, then restart. If that still doesnt work, uninstall 'composite USB device' under the USB Devices in Device Manager, restart. If that still doesn't work uninstall "Generic USB Hub", then restart.

If you find the keyboard defaulting to numpad mode fn + f7 should get it back to keyboard mode again.

It seems a recent windows (or some other software we both use ) update is seriously affecting our One 10's ability to function with the dock

Thanks - tried the dock/undock but to no avail.  Wasn't able to get to anything else because the pin/password could not be entered because of the problem.

Eventually restarted the device 3 times (hard power off each time) and it magically reset itself (third tme really was a charm).

No prob man. Hopefully our problems get patched soon. For the meantime I suggest using a pin to unlock the screen. The pin entry at least gets a software/screen keypad when you tap the pin field. Also, enable screen keyboard and have the icon show on the system tray just in case it happens again and you need to type asap.
