Mini DisplayPort 1.3 connected to X34 Overclocked or X34P at 100hz?

I want to make sure that I can connect the Aorus X7 DT V6 to a X34 or X34P and achieve 100hz in gaming.

Would a Mini DisplayPort 1.3 -> DisplayPort connection be able to drive a Acer Predator X34 (3440x1440p) monitor at 100hz?

Will HDMI 2.0 be able to do that?

HDMI definitely cannot achieve 100hz@3440x1440.  The bandwidth of the cables and the HDMI standard does not support it.

You will need to use DP for sure, and theoretically there is no problem with outputting through a miniDP > DP since all DP cables should technically support 100@3440x1440.  However, not all DP cables are made to the same standard of quality and a lot of people claiming issues with not reaching 100hz on these monitors were found to be using sub-par cables and their issues were quickly resolved after purchasing a slightly better, maybe branded, cable.

Therefore you shouldn't have any issues reaching 100@3440x1440 so long as you get a decent quality miniDP > DP cable for your laptop.  If it says it's rated/tested for 4K or DP1.3 compliant (something like that), or it's just a decent brand, then you should be good, since 60hz@4K HD requires more bandwidth than 100hz@3440x1440 UWHD.  Even better if you can easily return it if it doesn't achieve 100hz for you and you can try a different cable.

    Hope that helps Smiley Happy

    edit:

For example this one seems good as it specifically mentions 4Kx2K, and with good positive reviews, and Amazon do returns if it doesn't work correctly.  A lot of the DP cables at first glance are only specified at DP1.2 standard, and not 1.3 which could cause issues:
