Hello,
I bought this acer laptop and was wondering which type of m.2 drive I need. Is this m.2 slot suited for SATA or PCIe? Or both? I am assuming the size is the 2280.
Also, will adding a harddrive void my warranty with Acer?
Thanks
FAQ & Answers
Hi,
The M.2 slot is SATA III capable, and does not support NVMe. The size is indeed 22x80
Regarding the warranty, it depends on your country, some countries have stricter rules than the others. You need to check with your local acer service center for this information.
I am in the U.S.
Hi,
Then ask acer US.

As long as you don't damage the product while upgrading. Of course.
Nvme does work in this model. Speeds are capped at 1700mb though.

Hi,
If you want to check whether you can install a M.2 NVMe SSD, please read my post in this thread, you have to install HWiNFO64 program and check whether you have a spare PCIe Port capable of Maximum Link Width of 2x, details are here:

That is an answer which I like, a little bit more technical not just "it doesn't work"..
I'm not an expert of this tool, but from what I can see here it looks like I don't have a M.2 NVMe SSD, only SATA..
Is that right ?
Hi,
Yes, that's correct, you have no NVMe support

Bad news, but thanks for supporting me here.
At least I know what to order now
good part is that SATA M.2 are cheaper
You are welcome, there isn't much difference between them as well for normal work like browsing, e-mail, youtube etc. NVMe SSD is faster only when you transfer larger files.
