Acer G236HL monitor stand arm stuck to base

I just bought a G236HL monitor, and when it arrived I attempted to put it together.

I apprently put the stand arm on the base backwards, as it wouldn't go all the way down and is now stuck.

Does anyone know any good way to get it unstuck?

Here's a picture:

First remove screw from bottom of monitor base

Second while rocking monitor support pillar back  and forth (the long way of the oval cross section) while pulling very hard on the monitor support pillar it will seperate from the base.

The only reason they were stuck is because when the base parts are assembled  backwards the metal plate inside the pillar rubs up against the keying ribs and cuts into the same when you try to seperate them, this only happens when the parts are assembled backwards.
