Predator x34

Hi there I was after some advice. I have a predator x34 monitor and I have also a Xbox one s that up scales games to 4k.
No I want to use my monitor to view my Xbox but when I connect the hdmi from Xbox to my monitor and I go to setup my Xbox for 4K it says it doesn't support it.
Now I know the hdmi port on the monitor is only 1080 so I thought I'd be clever and bought a hdmi to display port cable. But I don't get an image using this cable.
Do I need to buy a 4K tv just for my Xbox or is there a way to use my x34.
There are only HDMI connections on the back of my Xbox.

Many thanks I look forward to your replys.

    Hello,

I learned the hard way that there are two types of DisplayPort/HDMI adapters. There are passive ones and active ones. To get a proper signal, your adapter must specify that it's an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I'll link you to an example: http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12781

If you in fact do have an active adapter, it may not be designed to carry the bandwidth of 4K (hdmi 1.4)

The fact that you aren't getting a signal at all is making me think you might have a passive adapter instead.
