acer iconia a100 update fails "network coverage is currently poor"

My Acer Iconia A100 has Android 4.0.3, and all updates fail with the message:

   Network Coverage is currently poor

but it is not, at 100%, and all other network functions work fine.

I see LOTS of problems and discussion and issues with this same error on later Iconia tab models, but so far no clear solution.

Is there one? or is this machine just orphaned?

Their support web-site lists nothign available for the A-100.

Your version is the latest for PA_CUS1.

normally the documentation is inside the update zip file.

    there is a clear answer:

that message appears because old Acer's FOTA update servers are down.

so to check about any update (the last was years ago), you have to check manually on Acer support website:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/3849;-;A100

select your operating system (android version), then click on OS

Thank you. I suspected this, from similar reports/ansewrs for later devices.

    My device shows:

        Android Version 4.0.3

        Kernel Version 2.6.39.4+

        Image Version Acer_AV041_A100_RV22RC02_PA_CUS1

        Build Number Acer_AV041_A100_1.049.00_PA_CUS1

none of which could I relate to their OS upgrade versions:

             Acer Info.jpg

Also, the documentation page does not actually provide the information on how to upgrade (as claimed above):

         acerInfo2.jpg

So I am not sure how to procede.

Yes, I've seen this issue as well with my Iconia A-100...this was very helpful.  My issue is attempting to upgrade Android 4.0x (what's currently on the A-100) to at least 4.1x in order to use a particular app. I was able to download the PA_CUS1 file and transfer the update.zip file onto the root directory of an SD card.  Verified the .zip file as being intact.  Held down the "volume down" button and power button simultaneously, and update seemed to begin but then aborted (showed Andoid figure with a red x) perhaps 15 seconds into the update.  Had to turn off using the power button, then restarted it normally with no apparent issues, but also obviously no update.  Table seems to work perfectly otherwise as is.

    1. Am I doing something obviously wrong?
    2. Can the A-100 be upgraded to any version of Android? -- at least 4.1 Jellybean?

Thanks so much for taking a look at my quandry and offering any solutions...Jeff

You need to be sure that your original Build version or system image is CUS1 too.

    settings/about tablet/build number

A100 officially can be upgraded only to the latest version available on Acer support website, so 4.0

Ahhh...thanks so much.  You've given me the straighforward logistics of the matter instead of a runaround.  I knew you'd be the one to clarify the situation.  It would appear that I have the latest version installed and can't upgrade any further with the Iconia A-100 tablet, and if I want to run an app that requires 4.1 or higher, I'm going to have to get a newer tablet (that runs KitKat 4.4, etc.).  At least I know exactly where I stand -- that's what I wanted to know (even if it's not what I wanted to hear).  Well, the tablet's great for most apps but I really need to be able to run this other one portably so I'll start looking.   Thanks again for taking the time to help and share your expertise...jeff
