Predator G9-792 Power buttton Issue?

My barely 2 week old Predator 17 suddenly started having this wierd problem where in after pressing the power button the laptop starts and sometimes reboots on its own. Its not a battery problem and sometimes the laptop goes off even after windows has loaded completely which makes me think its an issue with the power button being stuck. The power button seems to be very sensitive as in just touching the button (without pressing it hard enough to hear a click) turns on the laptop sometimes.

Can someone please help to solve this issue?

Oh man, that is not cool, if it is something with the power button and you just got 2 weeks ago, I believe you would be better off contacting Acer support, before trying anything.

I haven't seen any post with that issue in the Community yet, but keep an eye. Good luck Blitzcraig79

Someone asked a similar question eariler, but about the keyboard.  Sounds like the rubber "cone" that suspends the contact pad under the button, is either stuck in the down position, or the pad fell off.

Does the power button physically move up and down when you actually press it, and do you still hear the click?  Or does it feel like your hitting a virtual button, like on a touchscreen, where there is essentially no physical movement, but it seems to do its thing when its disturbed?

When i press it hard enough it does move and click but a lot of times it doesnt come on or the reboot issue keeps happening. Touching it like a virtual button also turns on the laptop with the rebbot issue most of the time but sometimes when im lucky it boots properly into windows and i try not to shut it down or restart it after that for as long as i can.

I'm going to say it's 100% a button hardware fault. Not something you should try fixing yourself. So you still have a warranty or protection plan on it? They usually come with a 30 day warranty from the store (depending on where you bought it).

Okay funny thing, My laptop went into automatic repair after all the rebooting and I decided to do a system restore and that seemes to have fixed the power button issue! I think its cause of an automatic windows update my laptop did recently i believe the update was for windows 10 version 1511 build 10586. Ive gone back to the previous build and i stopped windows update for now. Has anyone installed that update without any problems?

Unfortunately Windows 10 can screw up computers very easily if not installed/updated perfectly; Especially if the BIOS is not up to date (first thing I did when I got mine!).
