Hi, Need a little help with an Acer 1917

Hi,

I think this is the monitor section ...

I'm trying to set up an Acer 1917.

I want it to show the computer display in the normal way.

Unfortunately, it has other ideas.

I dont know how to instruct it to stay like i set it.

It changes my settings to silly ones,

which put the display too high and too far left,

leaving a blank bit along the bottom,

and a blank area along the right of about a quarter of the screen.

So i correct it,

using 'Auto'

then its Ok,

but only til next time,

then its out again.

So i correct it manually,

using the buttons to centralise the display,

Then its Ok,

but only til next time,

then its out again.

There must be a way to set this up.

People everywhere are not re-positioning their display

every time they turn on their machine.

I have not found a way to set this up yet.

How can i tell it where to put the display?

It goes into 'Auto'

and sets itself up every time.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Hi,

My email is down temporarily,

Ive been in touch with BT,

they say they are working in the area,

and try again later.

So i shall just come back to the forum every so often,

cos the broadband is still working Ok.

I asked them how come E-mail is affected,

they said its like that sometimes and

it will be okay by six oclock.

Strange, but there you go.

Hi,

I'm back.
Hoping for some brilliant insight on my mediocre little problem.
And yes i had to re-align my monitor again, as i have to every time.
It really is irksome and tedious.

I am however making some sense of what is happening with it.
It seems to me that it is in some 'AUTO' mode,
and it aligns itself very nicely with the display that its getting from the PC.

Which is nice of it.
It obviously thinks its being helpful,
by aligning itself very nicely and neatly with the display that its being given.

And it does align itself quite correctly, and the display shows perfectly correctly.

But,
that display is the pre-pages, sometimes called the 'C-mos'
and it only stays up briefly.
Then my PC (and, i suspect most other PCs) settles into its running mode,
with higher res than the pre-pages (sometimes wrongly called the DOS)
which now are displayed all wrong.

So to use the machine you have to go over the settings on the monitor.
Its not just a bit out, its almost cut in half.

I have found that if i change the orientation from landscape to portrait
(or maybe any other) it kicks in the 'AUTO' and repositions the display perfectly.
Then i have to 'revert' back to landscape and all is well.

So it might be possible to write a small batch file, which runs when Win7 starts,
to change to portrait, then back to landscape.

Which would mean that it will sort itself out and display properly.
But i dunno how to do such a bat file.

I would be much happier if it would just behave like every other monitor ive ever had,
and be normal.

I am sure its not supposed to be like this.

Well ive had a couple of hundred views,
And the 'MONITORS' section lists me as having two replies (so far).

Well they aren't really replies at all ....
Thats just me calling painfully into the dark for help.

Sombody should tell the site compiler (assembler? composer?) that
they're not really replies unless they come from someone else.

So far its just me.

Surely someone knows how to set up this ACER monitor display so that
it will operate in a normal manner?
I dont think there is anything wrong with this unit,
i think its just a setting up thing.

By normal, i mean when i start up the PC and the monitor,
i dont have to re-position the display every single time.

Even if it has to have a little batch file to assist,
that would be better than how it is now.

Hi,

I have found that by changing the High Colour (16 bit) to
True Colour (32 bit) i can see no difference in the display.
Other than the 'AUTO ALIGN' kicks in,
and lines everything up nicely.
.
There might be a way to kick in the 'Auto-Align',
by actually asking somehow for the 'Auto-Align' to operate,
but such a facility seems to have been overlooked by 'ADVENT'
the manufacturers of my desktop.
.
There are many resolutions, many different options, and many
settings and instructions available to the user, but i would
guess that the assemblers of the monitor control panel in my
ADVENT machine probably did not expect a monitor to line itself
up neatly with the Pre-pages, and then ignore the usual highr
res display which comes on when the PC proper starts up into
its normal running mode.

Maybe theres a tick box somewhere ...
"Dont align on the black and white bits"

Or maybe a tick box for
"wait til win7 is running before aligning"

Having to re align this monitor every time i use it
is really annoying.

Surely someone else has one of these??
What do they do?

I have found that pressing the "AltGr" and "F11" keys both at once,
will kick in the "Auto-Align" on my Acer monitor.
-
So ive been using that as a bit of a 'work-around' for the time being.
-
Still hoping for some way to make the acer monitor work normally,
that is without me helping.

I still feel that this monitor is fine, all i have to do is set it up right.
-
Ive seen other people start their machines, they dont have to fiddle with
their monitors, They stay where they're put from last time!

Now seriously considering a 'bat' file, to run at startup.

Hi there everybody,

I think i will embrace the arrangement of a small batch file,
to invoke the Acers auto align mechanism.

With this end in view, i have made a start on such a beastie.
And ive put it in 'startups'

It starts at startup, but it doesn't do anything much, it just
says 'Hello John'.
Thats my name, John.
Im still working on how to get it to do keystrokes, i dunno
yet if it can do a combo of two keys together.
But its a start.

well, ifound out something, but i dunno if its true.
Apparently you can't send keystrokes from a bat-file.

You can't send keys directly from a batch file, instead you can create a VB script to send the keys and call this script from a .bat file

Put the following code to a VB script, for example sendkeys.vbs (^ is Ctrl and % is Alt)

WshShell.SendKeys "^%1"
Put the following code to a batch file, for example sendkeys.bat

(required full path of the VB script if they are not in the same folder)

Well ive done some checking around and it seems so.
It would seem that one cannot send a keystroke directly from a batchfile,
however a batchfile can call a script-file,
and a script-file can apparently perform keystrokes.
.
Or presumably one could simply write the script-file instead,
i dont know about that yet, i am still looking.
.
But i have downloaded "Auto-it" with a view to using it to do this job.
