Hi everyone I just bought this laptop last week and I have the mini freezes mentioned in these forums But I did'nt clearly understand the solution and I hope it is not to buy an ssd and swap it with the hdd. I am very happy with my hdd and i don't want to replace it .

P.S: My laptop is a middle eastern model because i can seem to find specific reviews for it but it is basically the same specs as any other model eg.(processor, hdd, and ssd) except it has a gtx980m and 16 gb of ram

Thank you,

I have a similar model ( G9_592_786M ) which is a middle eastern as well, i bought it from kuwait

i've been having similar issues to yours, like freezes but everything got fixed after i updated my drivers

through acer care center ( also updating bios fixed all the issues ) freezing or shutting down for no reason

    hope this helps

    AJ.

EDIT1: i noticed few freeze's while browsing, first my mouse stopped working then my laptop completly froze, i don't know why, my model is ( G9-592-786M ) hopefully we find any solution together...

well Aj-KW my problem is similar to yours in a way but problem is more related to the minifreezes thread posted in this forum about your freezing i think it is related to either the hdd(which is my problem) or the graphics driver and if it is related to my problem then you can check your hdd while playing a game you will see it sometimes spike up to 100 and go down to 0 again I hope that we cn fix our problems

Hi, can someone explaine me how to downgrade BIOS on g9-792, yesterday after upgrading to 1.05 I recieved BSOD, after a night of research now I know - turning of nvidia driver in device manager helps, but after some seconds turning it on notebook crashes. I've got video of the process.

I upgraded my BIOS to 1.05 last week, and i only got one BSOD, after that i upgraded the rest of my drivers, ( downloaded from acer care website ), and running the laptop for another week seems to be very stable, i have never got another BSOD, also make sure your GPU drivers are always up to date ( download that through geforce experience app ) keeping every driver updated seems to help alot with BSOD's ( at least for me )

I wish i could help you more but this is what i have, if you get another BSOD, give us the crash report or the name of the blue screen error to help us identify what problems you have and how to solve them..

So, the reasons of bsod every time different 0_o, I'll post some of them tonight. I even have installed Win10 again after bios upgrade, thinking about major changes in micrcode. The ways I can imaging to solve this problem are 1.to wait new bios firmware from Acer 2.to downgrade bios by myself (I not sure off service is ok in my country) 3.official by warranty (((

    Bright:

There are many important factors why you are having different BSOD's, i am running the same BIOS version on 2 different predator laptops, Predator15 + Predator17, from the model number i know yours is middle eastern version, same as mine, however, you mentioned reinstalling windows? did you reset your computer or you preformed a complete format and reinstalled windows? because if you completely wiped out your SSD that has your OS, you need to set your drivers again in perfect order, i think you are getting different BSOD's probably because most of your hardware if not all of them are running without proper drivers which may cause random BSOD's, as i said installing the drivers in the perfect order after preforming windows 10 clean install is very important and critical,

Note: Some devices may not function properly if the drivers are installed out of order.

    1.  Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling Windows or updating all drivers, it is important that this software be installed first.
    (ACER CARE CENTER)

    2.  Chipset - Helps Windows control system board components and controllers.

    3.  Video Adapter - Enhances video performance.

    4.  Network Interface Card (NIC) - Enhances the network controller for Internet or network access.

    5.  Install Geforce Experience Software

    6.  Audio Adapter aka Realtek/Dolby Audio - Enables and enhances the audio controller.

    7.  Bluetooth

    8.  Wireless Network aka Killer Network Manager Software - Enables and enhances the wireless network controller.

    9.  Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards - Enhances the pointing device features.

    10.  Other Devices

I did Win10 installation first time right after buying the subj, every driver was installed without my intervention in the process by windows' services itself and everything was working nearly perfectly. After updating BIOS (why did do this..?) I thought that some global modifications has been made and decided to perform clean windows installdtion with wiping main system ssd (what i always did to my lenovo x230 with the same internal storage config). Now it keeps recieving BSODs with active nvidia card, while when it is turned off there is no BSOD.

Can somebody make a backup if it possible of the previous BIOS version on 792? I can try unpack .exe file, turn off version checking, assmble it back and "update" or maybe it was updated with mistakes and should be just reinstalled again...  Sure that it is soft problem according to the working state a day before.

    Hi,

the propper way without loosing warranty is to contact Acer support. In another thread they did downgrade Bios with customer via remote (unfortunately I don't remember the thread). It's just a question of adding some parameter when starting the update exe (I did such things with other producer's notebooks). Like Bright has proposed...to disable verison check....

but better try do do this with Acer Support.

Could be a software bug or Defected SSD/HDD

Well many it is the hdd defect but i don't think so because it only happens when i play games ( Games like hearts of iron iv , crusader kings etc...) But i think it is a software bug. Do you happen to know any good software for scanning hdd and do you know any kind of software bugs

CrystalDiskInfo checks the health of the HDD,SSD in general and the temps...

but for software bugs, i don't have anything on my mind... in other words no idea...

the spikes you get as you mentioned happens in some games, i would say maybe its related to the game engine being not compatible with nvidia drivers, always keep your gpu up to date with geforce experience, and try other games ( the question: is, do you get spikes or freezes in some games or all of them ) ?

do you  get lag or freezes when you're doing something else like browsing or watching a video?

You are talking about the OS disc? You could install any other process explorer. Such behaviour is typical for some Virus Scanners.

If you could backup the disc and do an fresh install with the most current drivers like

    Intel 530 driver win64_154025.4463

Killer Network Suite ersion 1.1.59.1701 Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, Updated On Monday, 02 May 2016

if you have an SSD upgraded like Samsung 950 Pro you could install the Samsung driver

    Samsung_NVMExpress_Driver_rev11

    and so on ...

then testing .... and after less than one hour you know, if you have an self constructed software problem.

     update:

I forgot, if the disc has for e. g. reading errors, it could be the same symphtom.
