H277HU randomly turns off and on

Just bought a new H277HU on Amazon -- when connected via the Acer-supplied USB-C cable to a brand-new Apple Retina Macbook (2016 version), it works beautifully, except it randomy turns off for a second or two, then turns back on. If I'm playing sound, the sound stops, then starts again. However, the USB drive that I had connected doesn't appear to be disconnected when this happens.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any solutions, aside from trying a different USB-C cable?

For any future readers of this topic, it appears that macOS Sierra has fixed this issue. I'm no longer seeing the monitor flashing off and on, even when disconnecting/reconnecting my MacBook multiple times per day. So, #blameapple for this one.

    I have this exact problem.

The monitor is absolutely perfect for my needs, but this "refreshing" is really annoying. I'll have to reluctantly return the monitor if it continues.

I am using the cabkle supplied but I've also tried other cables too. I've also changed enivonmental settings on Macbook to no avail.

    I have a 2016 Macbook M5.

Issue is compunded by the fact that the Acer site is broken and won't let me register the product to get support.

I ordered a cable from Monoprice to see if it changes anything. In the meantime, it seems that if you restart the Macbook while connected to the display, it resolves the issue until it's disconnected. Not sure if this means it's a display or driver issue in OS X though.

Interestingly, a review of the other USB-C display (LG) noted this same sort of issue with the LG-provided cable, so maybe it's related to OS X and will be fixed in a future update?

I'll post my findings once the new cable from Monoprice arrives.

    Interesting.

I'm within the time period to return the monitor. It would be a shame as I really love the convenience and quality of the screen.

I'm struggling to find a cable that is comparable. When I search for usbc 3.1 it only offers usbc to usba cables. I'll try linking up and then rebooting to see if that helps.

    Keep in touch on this.

I ordered this one, but there's also a Belkin one and Pleson. I'm curious if rebooting will work for you as well, definitely would point to a driver issue.

I've ordered three Belkin ones. I'm in the UK, but they seem the same. Belkin are seen as a fairly solid manufacturer here.

I'll be in work again Friday morning. Will let you know.

    Update.

Cables have arrived, but I decided to try the reboot method first and see how that went.

I shut down the Macbook (2016 M5), plugged in the monitor via USBC, and then powered it all up again.

After an hour and a half of use, the monitor has not flickered or shut off once!

Not sure what this means in terms of drivers, but it's a fix that works for me so far.

Based on my testing with several different cables, the issue is definitely either with the monitor firmware or the Apple drivers. The only solution is to connect the monitor (any cable works, except for the power-only cable that Apple provides with the Macbook) and then restart the Macbook.
