Solo Dedicated GPU or Integrated plus Dedicated combined?

I have heard that using only the dedicated NVIDIA GPU provides better performance in games.

Is there any truth to this? I have not noticed a difference in the few games I have had a chance to try.

Switching back and forth seems relevant because it is one of the macros Acer programmed into this laptop.

Why/when would you want to use the integrated Intel and dedicated NVIDIA together?

To the best of my knowledge integrated graphics are just to save battery when unplugged and doing non graphics intensive tasks, or I suppose to save wear and tear on the dedicated GPU. If the system is switching between integrated and dedicated GPU's properly you shouldn't need to disable it. If you come across a game that doesn't kick in the dedicated GPU you could disable the integrated GPU manually.
