Wifi issues on the S500

Even though this is my second S500 with the same issues, the support centre states that it must be a hardware failure.

This is strange because I've this problem only with a few access-points. In my home I've 2 access-points one is a KPN version of a Thomson router and the other one is an Engenius.

I don't know anyone how has encountered problems connecting to my Thomson or Engenius but my Acer refuses any connection with the Thomson and has a unreliable connection with the Engenius. With other access-points I encounter the same issues. Meaning I getting  no connecting or an unreliable connecting.

When I have an unreliable connection mostly this can be solved by rebooting the S500.

Even though rebooting is solving the problem it seems strange that ACER believes it’s an hardware issue. This directs more to buggy drivers for the hardware.

    Any oppinions?

As promissed I came back to give you updates.

I have made the phone connect to my DLINK DIR-600 router. Or to put it otherwise I made my router to work with my phone.

After lots of attempts I managed to put the original DLINK firmware back on my router (which I tried in the past to restore and failed). Right now it does no longer run dd-wrt.

Now the phone works just fine with the router!!!

So what I can only guess is that most likely it dependes on the AP/Router settings .

Probably the ACER S500 has an issue related to the connection settings rather to hardware.

I am so glad I can finally browse the internet from my phone via wilress and not 3G.

    Hope this helps someone!

    Hello Alexcza,

    Thank you for reporting back.

I have not been successful in compiling a new module version. When Jelly Bean is released it will include a new kernel version (i saw on a screenshot), which will hopefully fix this issue.

I read that a Sony device with the same chipset only works correctly with WEP encryption and 5ghz disabled. Perhaps this is the same issue.

    Kind regards, Don

Thanks Acer, for the Android 4.1.2 update.

It resolved my wifi issue as well as the bluetooth issue. The device now works as it should.

    Kind regards, Don
