USB ports dead on my new H277HU.

Just fired up my new monitor and it looks great, but either the monitor itself has a problem, or the passthrough to my computer is the issue. New MacBook with USB-C direct to monitor. Please advise.

While I'm at it, another question: There are 2 USB ports with different icons that are so small I can't make them out. I'm guessing one is powered and the other is not, but I don't really know. Clarification please.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay responding. In regards to the USB-C not working, maybe you can try the suggestion below that I got from another user.

     (1) First, connect to the monitor across HDMI, then go into monitor OSD and set the DP Alt port for video input (OSD Menu, Wrench/Settings, Input).  (2) Second, disconnect the HDMI cable and switch to the USB-C cable (cable provided with the monitor), you will still have no display but the monitor light should start blinking/flashing.  Lastly, power cycle the monitor and video should appear.  Please note when switching the cables, we did not power off either device.

In regards to the USB ports on the system, I don't have that specific model to look at, but I am trying to get one to confirm. Can you provide the first 10 characters of your serial number, so I can look into this?

Thank you for providing that info. I was able to clarify that the USB port on the right is USB with power meaning that port can charge a device while the monitor is off. The one on the left is a standard USB 3.1 port.

I have the same problem.  Conncetion to new 2016 macbook the display works.  The usb ports have power but no data connection and no hub shows up in system report

My ports were completely dead; no power, no data. Turned out to be a circuit board fault and the monitor was replaced by Amazon. Replacement works fine, although still a bit wonky regarding controls. For example, you cannot control loudness via keyboard. Overall I'm okay with the monitor, but not thrilled.

did you have to do anything to enable the ports - did they just work when you connected macbook (once you got a new monitor)?

It should automatically detect on most devices. Another user used the steps below and said they were able to get it to work. Hopefully, this will help you.

    (3) Lastly, power cycle the monitor and video should appear. Please note when switching the cables, I did not power off either device.

FYI I did a return on amazon and got a new monitor in 2 days and packaged up and shipped back the first one.  USB3 worked right out of the box on second montior.  Now have USB3 harddrive for Time Machine and Data (the Porsche Design with USB-C interface using USB-C to A cable) along with an Anker USB3 3-port hub with wired ethernet.  All works great along with 60Hz 2560x1440 all through USB-C on 2016 macbook.  Ideal analog to Apple's Thunderbolt display with Macbook Air or Pro - 1 cable solution - not 4K but as good as you can go at 60Hz without downgrading the USB link to USB2 which doesn't make sense for hard drive and ethernet...
