G9-591 produces ticking noise on headphones

Hi guys,

I just got a Predator 15 and it works awesome except that when I plug in my headphones into a 3,5mm sound jack, I hear an annoying deep ticking sound. Sometimes there is kind of a white noise accompanying the ticking sound and immediately after i plug headphones in I can hear a static sound for cca. 2-3 seconds (though I find that part normal).

I tried different headphones and the same thing happens on all of them.

I tried disabling Realtek audio driver, Intel audio driver, Razer audio driver, Nvidia audio driver... none of them seems to be faulty. Windows say all the drivers are up-to-date. I even deleted the Realtek audio manager...

I also tried playing with sound options, disabling every option one by one, and nothing seems to work.

The only time when I do not hear that annoying noise is when I turn all the fans on. It seems to become more silent as soon as I play anything with sound, though it might just be overrun by the played sound.

I don't know how to describe that sound, so imagine as if there was a microphone put above a fan which beats into something with every spin...or if you ever had one of those big old ceiling fans at home.

If anyone knows a possible solution it would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

Yes, it happens both with and without power cord plugged in.

My son uses his in-ear-headphones and he sais, it's more a rush than crackeling. I hope it's just a driver problem, not a "feature". Driver seems not to be very well programmed. With other similar Sound chips I can adjust every speaker by speaker, more options. It would be great if a more comfortable driver oculd be bought.

So nobody has any idea? Do any stuff answer questions here or will I have to contact support / bring it in for warranty?

Not sure where did you find it, but I can't seem to find any new drivers available. Or maybe it is because of the region, so I guess I'll have to wait for few more days...

Check G9-791 section, there is a new driver. I believe, that drivers for 791 are the same like for 591.

In fact, i dont think your problem is SW related. Sound isnt perfectly clear, i can hear some noise too. I heard about this "issue" in reviews too. But i dont know, how big is your problem. I can hear this noise only in very quiet scenes.

I've never tried wired headphones, but I will say that I have had no problems using my LG Bluetooth headphones for both web browsing, YouTube, and gaming.

Bought  Predator 17 G9-791-78CE and it does the same tapping thud without any music or program on, with PSU on or off.

My problem didn't go with software/driver updates and I am in another country for the whole summer. I will definitely go to a warranty provider in my home country when I get back.

I've got the same issue with my G9-591.  The ticking/white noise is most apparent when there's no sound playing and seems to be worse on my Razer Blacksharks than through earbuds.  Also when I'm watching the NFL, the vocals sound like I'm in a fishbowl* - not sure if anyone else is getting this issue too..?

Has anyone found a solution to this coz it's really starting to irk me.  Has anyone tried to use their warranty to get a refund?  If there's no fix, I'd rather have my $2k+ back.

*n.b. there's no fishbowling through the speakers when headphones are unplugged so it's not the source.

Same problem on G9-793. On my Sennheiser HD 598Cs this low ticking noise is very irritating while on cheap HD 201 can't be heard at all. I guess that since 598Cs are more pro headphones thery're more sensitive to the quality of audio source. Checked also on other mid-range headphones and the problem persists. I tried to update drivers, install generic high definition audio drivers - to no avail. Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet?
