eMachines EL1850 new RAM not working

Hello everybody!

I wanted to upgrade RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB, so I looked on the label placed on the current RAM and tried to find the best match. I bought and tried 1x2 GB Kingston and 2x2 GB Corsair (more info below), but unfortunately, none of these worked. After installation and turning the PC on, it was making long constant noise and I couldn't do anything. There was nothing on the screen. Then I tried them one at a time in both slots with the same result.

Why does it not work? What am I doing wrong?

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

The current RAM:

UNIFOSA GDDR3-1333 2GB 128MX8 1.5V EP, GU512303EP0202

Tried RAM (all new):

Kingston 1x2 GB DDR3, 1333MHz, Non-ECC, CL9, 1.5V, Unbuffered, DIMM (link)

Corsair 2x2 GB DDR3, 1333MHz, Non-ECC, CL9, 1.5V, Unbuffered, DIMM (link)

Motherboard: G41T-AD V:1.0

BIOS: P01.B3 (the latest version)

Successful upgrades made so far: Replaced Intel Celeron E3400 with Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

Luckily I have found someone who was trying to sell the same Unifosa modules, 2x2 GB. They work perfectly!

I want to thank everyone who tried to help me!

  • Hello,

    About the Unifosa memory module:

    1. What's the latency timing (CL)?
    2. Is the layout 2Rx8x128MB? - Kingston 1Rx8x256MB -

    1. Latency should be CL9 (according to this site), but because BIOS automatically underclocks the RAM to 1066 MHz, it shows CL7 (according to memtest and CPU-Z, 7-7-7-20 if I remember correctly)

    2. If by 2Rx8x128MB is meant 8 chips on each side (16 in total), then that's correct. The Kingston and Crucial RAM sticks have chips on one side only. Could this be a problem? I've never heard about it.

  • I checked the layout of all original memory modules and it's 1Rx8x128MB on each side.

Here are the original modules of 2Gb:

Oh, I'm sorry for the misinformation.

The code is correct. On the Unifosa RAM stick, there is this code: KN2GB0H00903402F0F9600

Can you tell me how did you replace Celeron E3400 by Core 2 Duo E8500?

I have the same eMachines EL1850 with CPU Celeron E3400 but when I replace E3400 by E8500, the bios has the error is one neverending beep Smiley LOL

It went well without any problems. No BIOS nor any other updates were necessary. I wish I could help you.

oh yes, I was successful in replacing E3400 by E8500, but E8500 only work with stock Ram Unifosa, it didn't work with another ram, exp Samsung 2Gb. So tired, haizz.

I've heard about it before. It's so weird to me. Maybe that's why I could't use new RAM modules with "new" processor. Really, I don't get it. I wish you success! Smiley Happy
