So now that Acer has discontinued abMedia from their Windows PCs I can no longer play Blu-ray files. Acer do no seem to have provided any information about what software to use instead to carry on playing media files, which is very annoying of . I have VLC media player but it doesn't like physical blu-ray discs I get the following message everytime I try and load a Blu-ray disc:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.
What software should I use now to play these discs?

I just tried downloading it from there but it only downloads abMusic, which I still have on my machine, and not abMedia which I need

VLC 1.1.x doesn't play Blu-ray movies from discs.
VLC 1.2.x will do that.0 -
I have the latest version of VLC player (2.2.2) and I keep on getting the following message when I try and play a Blu-ray disc:
Blu-ray error:
This Blu-ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.
What does it mean by AACS decoding? Can I do anything about this?0 -
I can't access http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ even with my Firewall turned off, probably because I am not using a home network as I am away from home for the next 5 and a half weeks. This looks like too much hassle and I most likey can't download these files using the network I have to use at present, is there other free software I can use instead?
I can't believe Acer deleted their software and didn't even have the decency to suggest or provide replacement software to use, it's a joke!

You can still get the AB apps
https://www.cloud.acer.com/ops/downloads
Did your laptop come with a Bluray? If so, you should have some included software capable of playing Bluray.
Free software: http://www.winxdvd.com/resource/free-blu-ray-player.htm
http://www.leawo.org/blu-ray-player/
Another option:
- Install MakeMKV as described in our original Blu-ray how-to. http://www.makemkv.com/download/
- Insert your Blu-ray disc. Make sure you have enough space on your drive (depending on the disc, this could be up to 50 GB).
- Fire up MakeMKV and head to File > Open Disc and choose your Blu-ray drive. MakeMKV will open the disc, and then present you with the titles on the disc. Hit the MakeMKV button and your movie should start ripping.
- When it's done, just double click on the resulting file and it will play in VLC.

As I mentioned before when I try downloading abMedia from the apps page it only downloads abMusic. abMedia was the software that came included with the laptop, it's the only software I've used for playing DVDs and Blurays up until Acer removed it last week.
I'll give those other free softwares a try and see if either of them work.0 -

Hooray, the Leawo software seems to do the trick! Now if only Acer had been as helpful as you guys. If I have any problems with this software I'll try the AADC installation again.
