Need Digitally Signed Drivers for ACER KN242HYL for Windows 10.

Just installed a pair of ACER KN242HYL monitors on my PC running Windows 10.

Windows 10 insists on 'Digitally Signed Drivers". The posted drivers for Win7 or Win8 are not 'Digitally Signed'.  Win10 defaults to using 'Generic PnP Monitor' driver.

Please ACER, update the drivers!  Thanks,

Acer does not seem to want to fix the windows 10 drivers to include their monitors, the kn242hyl does not work well with windows 10...  they should take a page from the Linux community and fix it, Linux works great with the monitor, steal the linux driver and add it to yours...Make one wonder if Acer really cares about their customers, you can't get to them via Email and the Chat people can't answer the question...

    Hi all,

Sorry for the late response. We do have an FAQ that will help with the installation of unsigned drivers in Windows 10. That article can be found here: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38289

Monitor drivers are only a inf file (basically a text file) that tells Microsoft what the name of the device is, and what resolutions it supports. It doesn't add functionality or allow to Windows to provide support for new resolutions that wouldn't be supported without the driver.

There are a number of factors involved in getting drivers signed, including a cost which ultimately is passed on to the consumer. It seems like a lot for a text file that gives the monitor a name in Windows.

I tried the solution for windows 10, and it installed the driver ok, but.... the window still does not fill the screen, there is 1 inch all around the edge unused.    My Linux machine fills the screen fine.

Why doesn't Acer use the drivers from the Linux program(s) adapted to windows 10..

    Pugg,

I don't have an answer for why we would or wouldn't use drivers adapted from linux, but the driver has nothing to do with the black bars. What resolution is your monitor set to in Windows?

I have tried every resolution that is listed in the advanced adapters settings, If I'm having a problem with the blank area with windows 10, I'm using in the windows 10 machine, ATI Radeon HD 4250 adapter, and update tells me it is upto date, after reinstalling the latest AMD drivers. and still does not fill the screen.

You probably need to adjust over/underscan settings in your Catalyst/Crimson drivers... this is a known issue with AMD products using HDMI: they are by default set to "old TV" mode, where it would cut off the edges of the screen. Yes, it's dumb, very poor choice for default, but it is adjustable.

Incidentially, I too am frustrated by the lack of signed drivers for the monitor. I do not wish to increase my system vulnerability by allowing unsigned drivers, and there's even a .hckx file, which means the only thing that needs be done for these drivers to get signed is to send them in through Microsoft.

I discovered this topic because, when trying to use as plug-and-play, a combination of two of these monitors and an Acer XR341CK screen would break windows. Installing the driver for the XR341CK seems to have... stabilized the situation, but I'm going to have to question for how long. These text files aren't completely useless, and while it's probably mostly Microsoft's fault, this still helps with a number of issues.

I'm unable to find where the settings are located, bring up the Catalyst, it shows only the CPU speed adjustments.

I have tried both the DVI and the HDMI, neither will fill the screen as it is now set,  the DVI produses the best detail.

    HDMI is somewhat fussy..

I'm on Crimson, so it might not be 100% the same, but it was definitely there back when I was on Catalyst. It should be under the digital flat panels section and scaling options (should always appear with an HDMI connection). Underscan does add some fuzziness... as far as DVI not working properly, unless you're using a conversion to HDMI somewhere in there, I'm not sure entirely what would cause that... is your resolution set to 1080p on the DVI?

You've got me again, I do not know where to set the settings.. The Catalyst I have does not have any choices

Perhaps you have it set in some sort of basic / simple mode? Try activating an advanced mode if you see one... can't remember if catalyst was one of the programs that asked for something like that (since I always go for the most options).

Thank you I guess I'll give it up.  To bad Acer does not stand behind their product,  I see a lot of complaints about the lack of drivers

    Pugg,

Drivers don't have anything to do with the settings on your device that are creating black bars on the side. We can certainly help you troubleshoot that but you'd need to provide some information like what resolution you're running currently and if you have any software that may be interferring. You mentioned an HD4250 and in my research, it appears that this is a mobility graphics card? Are you connecting your monitor (is it a KN242HYL?) to a notebook?

As far as the drivers go, they don't do anything in terms of operation, that's what I tried to explain earlier and one of the reasons we don't spend resources certifying drivers that only provide Windows with text based information (Name and native resolutions).

I'm using a desktop,  with a 6x6 ITX motherboard with on board graphics. Radon 4250 HDMI or DVI, both same result

What do you have the resolution set for?

So, I'd focus on 1920x1080 as this is the native resolution of the monitor. With that set, what black bars are there and where? Could you attach a screenshot of the settings and a possibly a picture of the monitor (showing the black bars)?

I can't get a picture that will show the sides,,, there is a one inch on both sides and 1/2 in top and bottom with both

computers  win 10 and win 7,        remember I can only get the win10 to show 64hz it does not even list 1920 1080 resolution,

Being completely honest here, I think you might be over thinking something here. I'm afraid of some odd ball setting having been messed with that's causing continual issues.

The statement, "remember I can only get the win10 to show 64hz it does not even list 1920 1080 resolution," doesn't mean anything. The refresh rate has nothing to do with the resolution. The KN242HYL will do 1920x1080 @ 60hz. If you've forced the monitor to 64hz it could be part of the problem with the black bars, though I'm not confident that is an issue.

If possible, go into the OSD menu and reset that and then take a look at this video which has the basic steps to make sure we're on the same page.

Cory,  I appreciate your help very much...

    Video??

I Reset and nothing changed,   the H.and V.  adjustments are grayed out and I can not find a way to get to them.

Is there instructions on adjusting the settings, most of the settings have no meaning to me,

is there a way to extend the time the OSD is up,  It did not change when I increased the setting up to 95 ..
