HELP ME. Why recovery.txt and Python27 in C after sent my ACER VN7-591G-77FH to add ssd?

I brought my pc (ACER VN7-591G-77FH) to ACER in order to make them add ssd, check the pc for heating with w10 and check usb ports. They told me at first that they would format the HDD (1 TB) and I would lose my data. I said "ok".

Today I went to ACER to get my pc and the guy at the reception told me they have cleaned the fans and that the problem with my usb ports was software, so that they had to reinstall the os.  Moroever, he told me they have made a recovery of the system. I asked him what he meant with "recovery", but he didn't explained very well (I thought he wasn't a pc technician) and told me they formatted the hdd and installed the os on the ssd.

When I came back home, I powered on my computer and I had to configure it. An acer screen configuration appeared and then w8.1 claimed to be configured with my mail, password mobile's number etc...

When I entered in my account, I noticed that in C there are the following two things:

1) there is a txt file called recovery which is empty

2) there is a folder called Python27 (didn't they delete it?? Why?). It looks weird because there are some files dated (11/03/2016) (tomorrow), while NEWS, LICENSE, python and pythonw are dated 05/12/2015, finally README is dated 21/11/2015

So...what did they do?

I have tried to install w10 from usb to reset everything, but when I boot, there's only Windows Boot Manager (Crucial 500blah blah blah blah) in the boot menu...

What can I do??

Since you are still under windows 8.1, i suggest you to create a recovery media using Acer recovery tool.
Once done, you can erase all the partitions on Unity 0 and do a windows 10 clean install.

your USB must have GTP partition scheme for UEFI and FAT32 as format.

if you have an iso file, i suggest you to use Rufus to burn it in the USB flash drive:

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

set it as the screenshot on the main page.

About Python and txt files...no ideas at all.

I used rufus with the iso image to burn the usb bootable key...

I don't know anything about GTP partitions...are they created by rufus?

yes,it's just how the USB flash drive will be created, set it as the screenshot on the Rufus website.

I'm downloading the iso. When I created the bootable key, I had another computer and I didn't store anywhere that iso, that's why I'm downloading it again. But I think I did set the usb key with the configuration set as default in RUFUS.

While I'm downloading the iso, I'm wandering whether the problem could be the fact that my bios is set as "UEFI" and not "LEGACY". Anyway, if the problem was it, why does the pc power on as usual?

Thank you. I boots now. However...

When I come to the drive/partition window it asks "Where do you want to install Windows?". The following partitions already exist:

    • Unit 0 Partition 1: Recovery | Type Recovery
    • Unit 0 Partition 2: ESP | Type System
    • Unit 0 Partition 3 | MSR (Reserved)
    • Unit 0 Partition 4: Acer | Type Primary
    • Unit 0 Partition 5: Push Button Reset | Type Recovery
    • Unit 1 Partition 1 : MSR (Reserved)
    • Unit 1 Partition 2 : DATA | Type Primary

Is it safe to delete all the partitions in Unit 0?

I'll let you now. I have edited the post you replied to, because the translation of "unità" was not so good.

The recovery tool asks me If I want to recover predefined computer settings (deleting just files) or personalised recovery which would bring back predefined os settings.

I have chosen the first, and it asks me whether I want to delete all files (use it if you want to recicle the pc. it might tooks several hours) or I want to delete just my personal files. I have selected to delete all files.

I have done the recovery using acer tool. Now there is no more Python27 in C, but Recovery.txt is still in C.

Now...is it better to install w10 after erasing all partitions or to install w10 as shown here: http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/35172-installing-fresh-windows-8-partitions.html ?

Recovery.txt is correct, since it's the log of recovery during windows installation.

    in my opinion:

    1) create the recovery media, so you will be able to restore your system as from factory:

    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26287/~/create-a-acer-factory-default-backup-in-windows-8.1

    2) delete partitions that are no more needed and leave the space unallocated (you can do it during windows 10 setup, using custom installation)

    3) install windows 10 on the unallocated space

I have seen the video you posted. He recommends not to delete recovery partition after creating a usb drive backup. What do you suggest?

if you want to do a clean windows 10 install, you don't need that partition anymore...if you create the recovery media.

Ok, I'm going to create a recovery media. I'm going to look for an empty large key, because the voice in the video told all files in the key will be deleted.

yes, the USB flash drive must be used only as recovery media.

He tells me he needs a 32GB drive storage and all the files in it will be deleted...but I have just an external hd that big, but I have very much stuff in it! Moroever, after moving files in it, won't I be able to use it for data?

So I'll have to go to buy a specific usb key for this job. Is this recovery so important? Which is the purpose?

The recovery media will let you re-install everything as it was brand new, even on a new HDD.

You can use an external USB HDD too but it will delete all your files and adding other files yo a recovery media is not a good idea.

Will it let me re-install everything just inserting the usb pen drive in the pc and booting from it on POST?
