Problems with Acer Iconia W5's I have been given

Hi all,

I have been given 4 Acer Iconia W5 (cant find anything more of a model number than that) with various problems to look at.

2 of them are ok, I can get them in to Windows all is well.

However 2 of them have issues and without a USB slot I am unsure of the best way to proceed

Tablet 1 - Begins to boot, but then says windows was unable to boot and takes me in to repair options. I have tried pretty much all of them, but nothing works.  Reset your machine simply takes you to a page stating "There was a problem while resetting your PC"

Tablet 2 - Wont switch on at all.  When connected to the power there is no indication that it has any power connected at all.

i think Tablet 2 is just dead, however if you have any thoughts, I am happy to hear them.

Tablet 1 should be fixable, however usually I would stick in a bootable USB to fix it, but these things only have SD and sim card slot.

Any help appreciated

Thought you said you have four - do the others work ? If one does you can use it to create a recovery flash drive and use it to repair the others.

Meanwhile with the BIOS open select "F12 on boot" so you can tell it to boot from the USB drive.

If you can get into the BIOS setup it should tell you the model and serial number. The W500 and W510 are quite different. Otherwise just describe how the power cord connects. (flat white connector on bottom or...?)

For W510 to get to the BIOS you press and hold the volume down then press and hold the power key until something interesting happens.

ps there should be a USB connector it just may be a microUSB.

Thanks for the response they are Iconia W511 with a flat white connector that goes in the bottom.

I have 2 that have keyboards too.

OK that is the same as my W510 except those have built in cell phone connectivity. See if they will open to the BIOS (when off and power supply connected hold down the volume down button and press the power key until something happens).

ps the owner's manual and drivers can be downloaded from support.acer.com

    Hi again Padgett,

Yes I managed to get in to the BIOS ont he machine that does power on, which is where I got the model from and yes it does have cell phone connectivity.

The manual I dont think will help me work out how to get past the failed Windows reset.

    Hi again Padgett,

Its been a little while, but its taken me a while to get the micro USB converter.

so I created the back to USB from a working tablet,

I then went in to the BIOS on the broken machine and set it to boot from USB.

It brings up a Keyboard language selection screen, then I get the "choose an option" screen.  I have tried most options, but all that seems to happen is the machine reboots and comes back to the keyboard language > choose an option screen

    Any thoughts mate?
