AXC-603-UR10 OS install after disk crash

After a disk crash I attempted to install my own copy of Win10-Pro-64 on a new hard disk.  The installation seemed to go well until the computer rebooted (as is normal during installation) and went into the last stages of getting everything ready, at which point the the little animated circle of dots on the Asus spash screen stopped moving and all disk activity stopped.  I tried this install several times but it always hung in the same place.

I then tried an installation of Win8.1-Pro-64 and it seems to have worked properly.  I don't really understand this because the computer originally came with Windows 8.1-Home-64 and the various automatic upgrades all the way to Windows 10 worked perfectly.

Any ideas? Thanks!

By the way, my question about windows 10 installation media, was only only to understand if your copy is updated to the latest available from Microsoft.

you have some spare time, would you mind to create an USB or DVD installation media, downloading windows 10 from Microsoft?

download this tool, run it and follow onscreen instructions; then use it to install windows 10 to your XC603

My Win10 installation disk is from "Dreamspark", which is a legal Microsoft site that provides free software to qualified students and faculty of qualified educational institutions.  In my case I am an instructor at the University of California Extension, San Diego.  I have been using operating systems and other applications and from Dreamspark for years with absolutely no problems on any computer, except for the XC-603 that is.

I'll try it if I need to in the future.  For no, however, I'm almost done with the tedious installation of Win8.1, the 300+ updates to it, then the upgrade to Win 10 from that.  If that all works correctly I'm not going to push my luck unless I get another crash.
