Chromebook for my 8 year old - Please Advise!

My 4th grade son, 8 years old, is wanting a Chromebook for his birthday because that is what they have at his school and will be using Google Docs for many years to come (they use it where I teach, the middle school where he will be attending in a few years).

I really can't afford to spend over $200 on one...luckily it seems Acer offers several models within my budget but being new to Chromebooks I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for when trying to decide between several models.

The couple models I've found are:

- Acer C720-2103

- Acer CB3-131-C3SZ

- Acer CB3-111-C670

The only thing I know about these models is that in looking at the specs the C720 has a slower processor (1.40 vs 2.16 on the other two) and the information on the 111 says 'standard' (as well as discontinued) while the information on the 131 says 'IPS screen.'

Can anyone tell me about these three models, which one is the best, what an IPS screen is (and is it better than the one on the 111), and one of these models would make a great Chromebook workhorse for my son?

Thanks for any and all help you can give.

I see a CB3-111-C4HT and a CB3-111-C8UB on Amazon, both under your price point. IPS stands for In Plane Switching and is a manufacturing technique that allow better side viewing angles. I'd think any of these would fit your needs well. I have the C720P (touchscreen version) and it's been a real workhorse for me.

Thanks very much for the reply!

It seems like the big differences between the 131 and 111 is that the 131 offers the IPS Display Screen Technology and uses N2840 processor while the 111 offers 'comfy' Display Screen Technology and uses the N2830 processor...both around $180.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
