Predator AG6-710 CPU Clock all over the place with PredatorSense Update

Received my Predator AG6-710 on Monday.  Installed all the associated s/w updates at the time including the latest Windows 10 build.  I've been playing with the PredatorSense app since day one checking out the various speed options and how it affects the LED lights and fans.   What I did see at the time was that the CPU speed was pretty much consistent at every setting .  High 3's Mhz in Normal mode. Around 4 Mhz in Faster and 4.5Mhz in Turbo mode.  Clock speed pretty consistent.   Yesterday I downloaded the new PredatorSense application and now I see the clock speed jumping all over the place!  Normal can range from 800 to 4Mhz and the Faster Mode bounces between similar.

I checked my "Balanced" Power settings (which I have NOT touched since receiving the system) and saw a minimum of 5% and max of 100%.   I adjusted the minimum to around 50% and tested that the 3 different modes now only went as low as 2Mhz or higher.   Tried the same for 75% which resulted in bouncing between 3Mhz and 4.5Mhz.  I verified the accuracty of the CPU speed with the CPU-z application and the latest Intel CPU Diagnostics Tool @ http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000006804.html

It appears to me that the new Predator Sense "lost" OS control of the CPU clocking speed.  It no longer forces the CPU to run, consistently, in the higher performance modes.   I know I can go in and set the Windows CPU power savings to be 100% all of the time, but not sure if that's a good thing to do.

Has anyone else seen this?  Any way I can download the old version of PredatorSense to see if a bug was introduced?

The way most CPU's are they will bounce around depending on the load.  Mine does it as well, but if I'm in a game for awhile it will pretty much stay put to whatever speed mode I have it set to.  If you are just browsing around with that open it will bounce a lot .

I'm sure you can find something to keep the cpu from doing that but I honestly have never had any issues with it (in the predator or anything I have built in the past).  I'll have to see if my PS program has an update or not, but I haven't noticed any issues with my system no matter what speed mode I have it on.

    Thanks Nick,

I sort of guessed that was the case.    I started thinking that the first few days of setup I was troubleshooting some USB 3.0 hub problems and the system was spendind cycles with the constant insert/removeI was hearing by the Windows alert tones.  At the same time I setup my new USB 3.0 hub from Amazon I received notice the new PredatorSense was available.  So it was just coincidental that I saw constant CPU speeds in all 3 modes.  I did some testing last night and noticed that I could get the CPU in a constant speed simply by scrolling around my mouse on a web page.

With that said, as I indicated I could easily change the min/max CPU clock speed via the System power settings.  I would expect an integration between PredatorSense and those system settings.  Press Turbo and the s/w should set the min CPU at 100%.  Set Faster and the min CPU at 80 to 90%.  And Normal, set for mininum 5% which seems to be the windows default for "Balance Mode" or some other value.   And for safety purposes, if I were to forget to return to Normal mode, have a timeout of no system activity where it would automatically reset the clock speed.

Do you happen to know if the PredatorSense app will spin up both fans automatically if the system gets way too hot?   While it's impressive that I can manually fire up the fans to sound like a jet engine taking off, if I were in full screen game mode (and unable to view internal temps), would the system automatically fire up the fans without manual intervention?  Just wondering.

    Thanks

Yes, the fans will kick up once it's under a decent load.  When I'm playing a game maxed out @ 2k, after about 15min I can hear my fan speeds start to rise to keep up with the cooling, then go back down when I'm done as it cools off.

Of course you can mess with fan speeds with various apps, but I usually just leave mine at the default settings as it cools the system just fine, plus I only play games in 1 to max, 2 hrs at a time (getting "old" lol, can't marathon it like I used too).
