Liquid E3 needs resetting multiple times a day

I've had my Acer Liquid E3 (Android) for about two years now, and it's been replaced and then sent away for repair twice in that time. The warranty is now expired and the phone itself just seems to want to self destruct.

The phone will be working fine and then randomly turn itself off. The Acer screen comes on, the phone vibrates a little and then nothing happens - it freezes while it's trying to turn off. I then have to reset the whole phone by holding the off+volume up button.
When it vibrates again and turns on, it's 50/50 as to whether it's worked, or whether it gets to my home screen and then the interface doesn't work (screen and buttons unresponsive) - meaning I have to reset it again and hope for the best.

It is literally driving me mad as it sometimes does this when I'm writing emails or messages, and won't fix itself for up to two hours.

Does anyone else have this issue, or any suggestions short of buying a new phone? Safe to say I won't ever buy an Acer again, it's caused me nothing but hassle.

have you tried a factory reset?

if the issue still persist after a factory reset, can be an hardware issue.

    Thanks for the reply,

Yes, I tried a factory reset when the problem first started - the phone froze for a long time and none of the buttons were responsive, and the LED didn't come on when I plugged it in to charge. Did the factory reset and it seemed to work for a while, until it suddenly started turning itself off. This has been happening for about three weeks now - you think I should do another factory reset? (It's not like I have many apps or photos left on it after so many resets!).

    it's ok.

have you ever checked about any software update?

i suspect your version is the latest available from 3UK; if i remember correctly the reset issue was fixed on generic Acer ROMS.

you have to ask to 3UK about updates for your device.

    Thanks for the help.

It is set to automatically update, and I just manually checked for the update as described in the Three guide, and apparently my device is up to date, so no further luck there.

Don't suppose you have any idea who / where I should contact? The Acer support is useless - they just say to reset it or send it away for repair, which is silly now the warranty is expired - I may as well look for a new handest.

Acer support can't do much, since this was a custom ROM for 3UK and if 3UK didn't ask for updates at Acer, even contacting 3UK will not solve your issue.

    there is a workaround but:

    1) can break your 3UK phone contract, if you didn't buy it or your contract is ended

    2) you need to google a bit to find generic ROMs (EMEA_GEN1) and find how to install them

    3) even if you successfull switch to EMEA_GEN1, i'm not 100% sure this can fix your issue (can be an issue hardware related)

    4) we can't discuss this kind of stuff on this board

    5) it's up to you Smiley Happy

I'm not actually using Three, it's just the shop the phone was bought from. I'm on a PAYG with Giffgaff, so everything is separate (handset/network).

Sounds like a lot of complicated effort and stuff I don't understand. It's so frustrating, but I guess I should just look at a new phone - certainly won't be another Acer!

Thanks a lot for your help Smiley Happy
