I have a costco system.
Acer Aspire ATC-120-UC22
It came with 4GB of memory (kingston) 1 stick 4 GB -1600
I bought an 8 GB kit...crucial memory... 2 x 4 GB
The system has 2 blue ports for memory and 2 black ports.
THe 4GB stick was in the blue port and that port was closest to the processor (the middle)
I was advised to put both things of memory that I bought in the same colors.
So I put both of the 4GB-1866 memory sticks in the blue slots. I took out the 1 4GB that was there and moved it to the black slot in between.
BOoted up the computer.
It is not acklowledging the next 2 slots. It still only sees 4GB.
I scanned the system using crucial's scanner http://www.crucial.com/
It still seemed to show that only the FIRST slot had 4GB of memory in it.
I'm puzzled.
Help.
Is there a way to see more accurately what is in the next 2-3 slots?
is there something I have to "turn on"?
Should I move the memory?
THings do seem fine now as i'm online. But it says the extra memory isn't there.
Important as you found out is the make sure they Pair are in the same Colors... But your sytem should be set up as stated below to work right.

Hello,
I think #1 and #2 are blue and #3 is black (difficult to see)
Tinkerer
what's a PCD?
I did finally figure it out simply by twiddling with them. The two new crucials go in the blue and black furthest away from the processor. The old kingston memory went in the blue next to those.
The one closest to the processor was left empty.
it didn't make sense but that was the only way it acknowledged 12 GB.
using JUST the blue slots with the crucial gave me 8. using the 3 in other configs gave me 4.
and if I left the slot furthest away empty the computer beeped angrily.
PCB means Printed Circuit Board
So DIMM:
You have a memory amount of 12Gb like this?

Nice chart thanks! altho it didn't totally answer the other question of...which one is dimm 1?
From evidence I guess the furthest DIMM away from the processor is DIMM1 and that one is blue. That was the one that the initial stick was in. This of course goes against how everyone is telling me it SHOULD be.
But that's how it is.
Cruc, Cruc, King, empty.

I have the same system. I just got two 4GB Crucial sticks, installed them the same way you did, and up and running with 12GB of RAM in 5 minutes thanks to your posts.
