i would like to upgrade extra 8 gb of ram to my predator 17 (i have 8 installed) and only 1 ram slot is filled so far, so if i buy a 8 gb ram stick, in which slot should i put it in, beacuse there are 3 left, and i dont really want to dissasemble the laptop to reach the slot at the other side of the motherboard, so can i put it on one of the empty 2 slots on the front side (the side that ssd it on), and which type of ram do you suggest, which manufacturer

  • Hello,

Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

why do you need that, why the first 10 digits

  • Hello,

The first ten digits are just the part number of your laptop. I need to know the model.

It's not the full serial number. Don't worry! I can do nothing with it.

    my model number is G9-791-7349

  • You have to upgrade in this order:

Slot #1 (CON1600) located on the motherboard/top case

    Slot #2 (CON1700)        "                         "                     "

Slot #3 (CON1601) located on the motherboard/bottom case

    Slot #4 (CON1701)        "                         "                     "

In your case, the first module memory is located under the keyboard. You have to install the new one on the available slot #2.

Here are the original memory modules:

so which one is that( the slot number 2), the one that is accessible when i open the plate that had 2 screwes, or do i need to dissasemble it completely to upgrade?

  • Unfortunately it is located under the keyboard. Complete disassembling.

  • Do i need to remove the cooling from the processor when i am doing that?

Yes all is fixed on a metal plate.

If i do need to do that, do i need to reapply the thermal paste?

    Yes of course.

Do you want really to upgrade the memory amount because it's not easy?

    Wait..

i got a 15" with 1x8gb install under the keyboard.

I bought 1x8gb more and install it in slot 4, then it run in DUAL channel mode, better than single.

it works so good here. Smiley Very Happy

  • Hi Soegaard,

I thank you for your feedback but I'm suprised.

    I explain:

    Processor - Channel A - Slot #1 (CON1600) - Original memory module of 8Gb

                                        - Slot #2 (CON1700)

    Processor -  Channel B - Slot #3 (CON1601)

                                         - Slot #4 (CON1701) - New memory module of 8Gb

And they run in dual channel mode!Smiley Surprised

If that work for you, that will work for intelnikola because Predator 15 and 17 have the same memory specifications.

    Good to know!Smiley Wink

    Hi

    Thats right.

It should be the same for both models.

When i bought 1x8gb i just open up into the ram and hdd. try one slot and boot into OS and open CPU-Z.

Then i see its 16gb single. Open up again and try the other slot, and again into CPU-Z and then it said dual mode.

for me its slot 1 and 4. Smiley Very Happy

so are you saying you can only do one stick at a time to get it to boot ?

I have tried multiple differnt modlules with ZERO luck

I have 32 GB OEM installed and the 2 slots on the back OPEN

I so far have put both in at once

tried Crucial 2x 16GB 2666 mHz  those did not work

then tried 2x 16GB 2400 mHz crucial Ballistic units still no luck will NOT boot at all untill the new modules are removed then all is good again

If I hear you right I need to try ONE 16GB boot then add the second 16GB module and then it will see all 64GB ??
