I am trying to upgrade my o/s to windows 8, but the COA appears to be stored in the bios, is this true, and if so, is there a work around?

I feel like I'm getting only part of the story.

What is occuring to make you ask this question?

Can you step through what you've done and what has occured?

Any specific error messages would help.

Sorry I did not give the full details! Our customer bought a Acer V3 731 Laptop which came with Windows 8, standard, which is like the old "home" versions in that you cannot join a domain. So they purchased a oem windows 8 pro dvd with license key, and tried to install it, but because the COA for the standard version is burnt into the bios, it refuses to install. I know that what they should have done is go through the online upgrade path, but they didn't, and I wanted to know if there was some way of either editing the key in the bios, or entering the key from the oem pack, so we can use the disk that the customer bought?

I see.  Yes, you are correct.  The proper method would have been to use an Upgrade pack for Pro.
