Trying to add an SSD, but now I can't see the hard drive?

Member Posts: 3 New User

I'm trying to add a 256Gb SSD to the 1Tb hard drive in my Aspire V3-772G.  I put the SSD in the bay where the hard drive used to be and swapped the hard drive to the extra bay.  I have cloned the hard drive to the SSD and can boot by either when pressing F12 to select boot preference.  However, when I boot by SSD (as I would like to be able to), I can no longer see my hard drive.  When I boot by the 1Tb hard drive, both are visible.

I have attempted loading the hard drive into an external enclosure and am able to see it as plugged in with USB3. When loaded into the ssecondary hard drive bay, device manager does not see my 1Tb hard drive.  Please let me know if you have any ideas for what to try next.

which windows OS is installed and BIOS is set to UEFI or Legacy?

Have you tried to swap the SSD and HDD slot, just to understand if it's a BIOS limitation?

Yes. The hard drive does not show up in disk management (except when I boot from it, or plug it in as an external hard drive with usb)

Switching bays and F12 to start from the SSD worked.  Thanks for the ideas
