laptop suddenly shutdown and won't turn on (power light doesn't turn on when plugged in)

Laptop abruptly shutdown while it was plugged in. Hasn't turned on since (3 days). When I plug in the power cord, the light doesn't turn on (have tried on multiple sockets).

    Hi styllen

     

    This may be an issue with your charger. Can you borrow a similar spec charger (or a universal type) from a friend or family member?

     

    If you can borrow one, connect it to your laptop to see if the power light turns on. If it does, then your old charger is dead. If it still doesn't then perhaps the power socket has become un-soldered from the mobo & will need attention.

    Thanks for the reply. I don't have a second charger. I just bought this charger a few months ago. I'm not a techie by any stretch but I'm not sure if that's the problem because just before the computer shutdown, it was running off a/c power. If the charger was the issue, shouldn't the laptop have reverted to battery power?
