For Singapore users, did you buy your X34 from Xtreme Solutions? How is the monitor so far? I am going to buy a G-sync monitor next week and would love to hear any reviews for units bought from Xtreme Solutions. Thank you!

My x34 is working very well, except for slight ips glow in corners, but most monitors give some sort of glow in dark screens.

The problem i have is screen tearing in some games with GSYNC enabled,

now i no all about having VSYNC  enabled to cap FPS so it doesnt go above refresh rate.

But i have fps lock useing RivaTuner at 100.

The GSYNC logo is enabled in Nvidia panel and it shows in all games.

In Nvidia web pages telling about Gsync it states that you only get tearing if the fps goes over the refresh rate in this case 100hrz, and to stop it you need to cap FPS by useing Vsync, Vsync IS defeeting the object, i dont need a Gsync monitor to enable Vsync, this is BS.

Vsync = input lag, wich Gsync is spose to combat.

Is this monitor faulty, is Gsync an exspensive gimmick that doesnt work?

I would like to no from somone who actualy Knows what there talking about,or amybe i just send this monitor back to ebuyer and see if asus can do better.

    any help will be appreciated.

    Hi jjjohnbarber,

G-sync is not supposed to affect input lag in any way.  G-sync is designed to synchronise the refresh rate of your Monitor with that of your Graphics Card, instead of what happens without g-sync which is the monitor sometimes refreshing at a different rate to the updates coming from your GPU.

The result is a smooth image, no vertaical image tearing/stuttering etc. especially noticeable when the field of view is moving rapidly.  You can see the demo for g-sync showing it here, please click on the 2nd video "How g-sync works":  http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/videos

You are correct in stating that you should turn V-sync ON in the NV Control Panel as well as G-sync, to stop the g-sync module from disabling when you go over your monitor's refresh rate.

You mention using RivaTuner, it is very possible that this could be interfering and causing problems with g-sync.  I would very much advise not to use RivaTuner, and just turn Vertical-sync to ON in the NVIDIA control panel instead, as they suggest here:  http://www.geforce.co.uk/whats-new/articles/g-sync-gets-even-better

G-sync works very well, and I've noticed it a lot myself.  Especially in games like Tomb Raider or Shadow of Mordor when you get an artifact on the screen to move around and inspect.  With g-sync off this results in some really horrible tearing on the object, but with g-sync on it's silky smooth.

    Hi thanks for quick reply.

i understand what you say, but if i turn gsync off and just use vsync i get no tearing or stuttering.

i could do the same on my last monitor wich wasnt gsync and had the same effect, ie some input lag.

I  just dont see the point in gsync if you need vsync enabled.

i turned gsync off and just used vsync and there is no diffrence.

So i have tried not useing riva tuner, then i have capped fps in game to 99fps with gsync enabled and vsync off, still tearing. now answer me this, if you enable vsync with gsync on, is vsync working or is it JUST ther to cap th fps?

Yes, when you enable both v-sync is just there to cap the frame rate to your monitor's maximum refresh.  G-sync will be used from about 30fps and higher.

Sorry comicgeek, blame jjjohnbarber for that one.

I hope you find someone else using the monitor from Singapore who can help respond to your question Smiley Happy

I will just say to make sure that your warranty is covered in the region you purchase the monitor, if you decide to go for it.  I know that if you purchase the monitor in another region and send it globally elsewhere in the world then Acer will not cover the unit under warranty.

    thanks.

basically why I'm asking since in Singapore we can't just return an item we bought it we didn't like it or if there is a defect that the company will not acknowledge it to be such. for an expensive item I had to be sure before purchasing.

Followed you here from you PM at OC.net.

Have you been following this thread in HWZ? http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/quick-unboxing-review-acer-x34-g-sync-monitoring-5198864.html Sg users have posted there.

I have had O problems with the monitor except for light BLB at the top and the scanlines issue.

I bought it from t258jgn who you can find in HWZ and VR forums. He sells the same monitor for 1390S$ only. I highly recommend him as a reliable seller of computer hardware.

I've done a lot of work on scanlines and here it is:

Problem: Faint horizontal lines on the monitor when G-sync is ON.

You might have to select the text and click 'go to' to make the links work.

Behaviour: I decided to do some investigation and found that it was not related to the G-sync VRR operation at all. I made a writeup about it. http://www.overclock.net/t/1573121/acer-predator-x34-displays-show-your-images-or-experience-here/370#post_24609304

Thanks Mountainlifter.  That third link you put is extremely insightful and I have passed it over to NVIDIA as part of the ticket I have open with them currently for the scan-lines issue.  It's escalating to their 3rd line technical team now so I'm very much hoping we can get to a resolution for this at some point soon Smiley Happy  Cheers for the extra info!

I've updated the scan-lines thread here with a quote of your post too:  http://community.acer.com/t5/Predator-Discussions/Predator-X34-OC-amp-GSYNC-Scanline-problem/m-p/402219/highlight/false#M2490

Thanks Vand. Glad it was useful and I hope Nvidia can do something about it. I've been trying to tell people that it's not the G-sync operation itself that is causing it but the low panel refresh rates but it's been tough to get the idea across. I've mailed a couple of review outlets with my post and recieved acknowledgement emails.
