Hi, I have a problem with my Acer vn15 591G, indeed I intend to upgrade my notebook with a ssd to replace the slow 1tb HDD. So, I have bought a 480gb SSD with an usb-sata cable connector, but when I try to connect the ssd with the notebook, It is not detected, even in disk management, while another computer is able to detect the ssd.

Which can be the problem? Thanks

so, you are trying to have both 1 TB and SSD on your laptop?

    as model, you intended VN7-591G?

Probably the USB can't send enough power to let the SSD works.

By the way, in my opinion, you are not doing it in the right way; if your model doesn't have a M.2 SSD, you can add one without having an USB occupied (and slowing) by the a SATA SSD.

No, I am trying to replase the HDD with a SSD, indeed I need to open the notebook. The model is right: VN/-591G.

I tried to connect the ssd with the cable to another computer and It is work, but with the acer nitro It still not work.

Sorry but I do not understand your last sentence, could you explain me what you mean? Thank you Smiley Happy

    Wait.
Have you already tried to replace the HDD with the SSD?

If so, the first thing you need to check is if BIOS can recognise the SSD.

No, I haven't tried to replace the HDD with SSD, because in this way I will lose some recovery partition which are in HDD, for this reason I am going to migrate partition from HDD to SSD, so I can preserve my partion from HDD. Moreover replacing the HDD is something difficult on Acer vn7.

I have tried if the BIOS can find the SSD connect with cable usb-sata to one port of acer vn7, but BIOS does not detect nothing about SSD.

    What can I do?

    Thank you Smiley Happy

can you please post a picture of this SATA-USB cable?

once you will clone the HDD partition on SSD, will you swap the HDD to SSD?

can you also post a screenshot of your Windows disk management?

Have you tried to connect to the USB3.0 port?

USB 3.0 has more Watt and more Ampere than USB 2.0; BIOS can't find it until it's a bootable device or it receive enough power to start.

Yes, I have tried to connect the ssd to the 3.0 usb port. But nothing is changed.

Probably a power issue, it will be better to try with an USB powered HUB or an external HDD powered case.

Probably is as you say, but It is a mistery why the computer does not provide enough energy to the ssd, while one other notebook (older) without 3.0 port is able to read the ssd. Could be a problem of my laptop? If so how can I check it? Thanks Smiley Happy

    can you check one thing?

plug the SSD via USB cable again, then enter Device manager

    windows key logo + x

    choose Device manager

click on View tab and choose Show hidden devices

once done, check if any exclamation mark is present

no more ideas at the moment.

oh to check if there's current from USB ports, you can connect a smarthphone and check if it will start to charge the battery.

so, it's some kind of compatibility with the SATA/USB cable.

I have tried to download windows 10 using windows update this night and when I woke up the computer was in loop with with text: "operations on features 100%" due, probably, to an update for windows 8.1. So for the SEVENTH ( the previous time were because of similar things, the impossibility to use the computer, probably you should now that the first day after the worst purchase of my life the computer was not able to power on, so I had to restore it; moreover the program Acer recovery management does not work and for this thing I have sent it to Acer without any result) time I had to restore the pc. After the restore it was very very slow with a lot of stop so I have installed new driver for win 8.1 from acer support. I have reboot the computer and after that I have used the computer for 10 minutes but it was too slow, so for the OCTAVE time I have to restore the computer. All seem to procede in the right way but suddenly a "beautiful" screen appears:

"Your PC needs to be repaired
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Error code: 0x0000034"

So now I cannot use the pc, what I should do? I am tired to restore this computer everytime because I cannot use it, and Acer is not be able to repair it.
    Thank you

and try to do a clean windows 10 install, instead of an upgrade?

with the latest download tool version, you don't need to upgrade first but you can clean install windows 10 without issue on product key.

just use the download tool to create a bootable USB flash drive and follow onscreen instructions.

if during installation process it asks about a product key, just skip those steps.
