I;ve purchased a new laptop from a high street supplier in the uk, and as the memory was a bit light (4gb) I've purchased a new memory module (8gb).

However there  is no obvious way to get at the memory bank - to i really have to unscrew 16 screws.

Any ideas anyone - Acer support not interested !!!

OK - I went for it,

    This is for a F5-571-36fd

No Pictures at the moment .............

    1) Place the laptop screen down with the hinge away from you

**There is no quick release for the battery

**There is no access to anything

    2) Remove "all" 18 screws

    • 3 Along the battery
    • 2 in the right hand courner by the hinge
    • 2 in the left hand courner by the hinge
    • 4 along the front
    • 1 at the side of the CD case
    • 2 on the right hand side
    • 4 in the middle of the laptop

    3) Remove the DVD player

    4) Remove the 3 flat dumpy screws

    5) Remove the case (it's tight), so I did it this way

    Use a plastic/wooden tool here !!!!

    • Start at the battery and lift the case away
    • Repeat for booth hinges
    • Now do the DVD side
    • The front right corner by the SD reader was very tight for me
    • Now push the case away from the vga/usb port on the right side

    6) Be careful removing the ild, there is a single cable for the SD card reader

Be patient and go slowly - I'm far from being a techie and it only took me 20 mins

Well done! You have a brave attitude to pull that back off. I thought it was necessary but with the laptop only being 2 days old I was very nervous about breaking it. Your post gave me extra insight (into removing the DVD and the dumpy screws) and the heart to continue pulling the plastic back until it came off.

Whatever happened to making things so customers can use them and updgrade them properly and without severe heart stress! Going for a lie down to lower the blood pressure!!
