Language pack problem

Hi Forum members,

I purchased an Acer M3-581TG in November last year. The Windows 7 was in German, and I was told that by purchasing and installing the Windows 8 upgrade I can cahnge the display langage to English.

Windows 8 is now installed but I am having trouble installing the English language pack.

I go to Control Panel and select Languages, there is a list of languages and I select English (GB) and put it to the top of the list. The online guides say that there should be a link to download and install the new language pack. In this case there is no link appearing, instead it instructs to make an internet connection so that a LP can be searched for.

The internet connection is present, it is using a USB WiFi.

Can anyone help solve this problem please?

Thanks,

You may find the Microsoft article below helpful:

    Thank You Acer-Tommy,

I know the way to install langage packs as described in the article, but when I try to install there is no link to download a new panguage pack. I want English, but have tried other languages and never does a Download and Install link appear where it is meant to.

I think the problem is that the Language interface part of the OS does not recognise the internet connection because it tries for 30 seconds and then says to make an internet connection so that a language pack can be found.

I use a USB stick for internet connection.

Can this be the problem? If so, what is the solution?

    Thanks,

    Lawrence

What do you mean that you "use a USB stick" for internet?

How are you connecting to the internet?  via LAN or WLAN or something else?

The Acer M3-581TG has a built-in wireless LAN card.  Why are you not using it?

It also has an ethernet LAN port on the rear of the system.

Have you attempted to connect to your router directly?

    Hi Acer-Tommy,

I think we are getting closer to the problem/solution.

I have installed the new driver for the WLAN and made an internet connection to the local wireless network, and now the laptop is doing updates properly.

For the language pack it now states that 'no language pack is available' for the English option. It did not state that before.

Please, what is the issue now?

    Thanks for your help,

    Lawrence

Have you attempted both English (United Kingdom) and English (United States) ?

I have added both UK and Deutsch to the list on a unit here and am prompted to Download and install language pack when I click into the language selector.

    As a side note:

You can change the input language by pressing Windows key + space.

    or

Click the language letters on the taskbar in the lower right, next to the time/date.

You can select from the list installed.
