Acer S7-392 Factory Image

Hi,

My SSD drive was accidently wiped, completely wiped, meaning that the OS partition, as well as the boot and recovery partitions are gone.

Is there a factory image that includes recovery, os, and boot that i could burn to a dvd and reinstall using?

I have reinstalled windows 8 so the os isnt that big of an issue, but when booting I am stuck in legacy mode, when switching to UEFI it says that theres no bootable media. Also, I have issues with brightness as the display is stuck on maximum brightness.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy your Acer recovery media here:

    http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/html/pbPage.globalStoreSelector/ThemeID.35703000

In the meantime to get things back to somewhat normal.....

    1. Save your important files to a backup

    2. Create the microsoft windows 8.1 USB media

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

3..  Go in to your BIOS and load the defaults.  Save and exit.

    4.  Go in to your BIOS and enable Boot Menu...save and exit

    5.  Boot the Microsoft media USB and click on "repair..."

    6.  Use diskpart clean (which will wipe out your SSD)

    http://forum.crucial.com/t5/The-Cru/Reset-your-SSD-to-factory-settings-Windows-DiskPart/ba-p/162503

    7.  Navigate to shutdown your computer (in the USB tools)...and shutdown your computer

    8.  Boot the Microsoft media USB

    9.  Use diskpart clean again

    10. Navigate to shutdown your computer.......and shutdown your computer.

    11.  Boot to Microsoft media USB

    12.  Install Windows 8.1 on the entire unallocated space (do not partition and do not format...as the windows installer will do that for you automatically)

    13.  after windows installs, get your drivers from windows update, or Acer website or directly from the component manufacturer.

    14.  When the Acer factory default recovery media arrives in the mail.......I suppose it would have instructions or would be self explanatory.

Thanks for the reply, I followed all of this, the only problem im having now is that my laptop is stuck in legacy mode. If i change it to UEFI mode, then the laptop is unable to find the os thats installed on the computer.

The problem with legacy mode is that it has a really slow bootup speed, so how can i get it to work again on uefi?

I'm assuming that Acer sells all of its S7-392 with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 pre-installed.  I'm assuming that your S7-392 came with either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 pre-installed.  I'm assuming that your BIOS would default to UEFI.

I'm assuming that you followed step 3.  Smiley Wink

    Optional Step:

9.5 type "convert GPT" without the quotation marks

Use this link to help you with BIOS version.  Be sure to write down your current BIOS version before updating to a new BIOS.

When i set the bios boot to UEFI, the laptop cant find the Operating System. So im forced to switch back to Legacy in order for the laptop to boot up.

Thats what i'm asking about, how can i get bios to recognize the OS while in UEFI.

Right.  I gave you the step by step method to do that.

If you want to try alternate methods, you can at your own risk.

Yeh saw that changing HDD format in another post, didnt want to do that has it would mean re-installing Windows again, but, turned on today and the Bios window is not showing goes straight into "Sarting Windows", so left well alone, also found the reason for Mouse operation not working on Finger pad, seems the battery presses against the underside of the Pad so there is not enough movement, so, a bit of tape on the underside on the battery between each side of the fingerpad and problem solved.

Having installed Windows 7, this notebook is the fastest laptop I have ever worked on, gets to Desktop in about 10 seconds

Regards and thanks for all help.
