How does windows 10 go on an Aspire v5 571_p? Will I be able to play dvds etc?

I'm considering trialling windows 10 go on a v5 571_p.

Does anyone have a good sttory about this (i.e. installation went smoothly and windows 10 runs well on this device)?

I can see from previous posts that some people have had various issues - just wanted to know if things went well for anyone. Am I correct in seeing that the Aspire v5 571_p is *not* on the windows 10 supported models list (gulp) http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-eligible-models?

If I install windows 10 on this device, will I be able to play e.g. commercial DVDs / movies etc without buying additional software from microsoft? Or am I correct in assuming that none of the media playing software available on the device (e.g. clearfiMedia) can be re-installed in windows 10 after the upgrade?

That the model isn't on the list doesn't mean it is not compatible, just that Acer doesn't think it needs to provide new drivers. Either there are already compatible drivers or the model is too old for it to make sense to create new drivers. In most cases it is the former.

Windows 10 does not play DVD movies natively. You would have to add software in order for that functionality to work. You don't need to buy the software from Microsoft, there are plenty of other vendors, and most likely if you have software like that already installed it'll still be there after the upgrade. You might want to upgrade the software to the latest version before the upgrade though just to be safe.

I'd still like to hear from anyone who had a good experience installing Windows 10 on this device, but there's enough detail here for a solution.

I think many people with Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 computers, create factory default recovery media and an Apps and Drivers backup prior to updating to Windows 10......just to be on the safe side. I'm pretty sure they back up their important personal files too.

Even though Windows 10 typically gives you an option to rollback to previous operating system, some people have made mistakes and messed up their computer so that option is no longer available to them...and/or they've accidentally deleted their original factory recovery partition.
