Acer Iconia W510 Does Not Boot (soc_critical_device_removed)

Acer Iconia W510 with Windows 8.1 does not boot reliably. Sometimes the device will boot fine, other times I get a blue error screen right after the Acer splash screen. It probably boots fine 7 out of 10 attempts.

The worrying thing is we have apprx 100 of these devices and we have this problem with several of them.

The screen (below) shows "soc_critical_device_removed" as the error. I'm struggling to find any information on this error.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

It's typically a device driver issue. What do you have connected, and do you have devices that used to be connected and now no longer are (like external hard drives maybe)?

    Hello!

I have the same problem on my W510 w/ 8.1. I have this BSOD sometimes at boot, and generally this happens: (Acer logo, BSOD, Acer Logo, BSOD, Acer Logo with "Starting automatic repair"). Normally I have connected mouse/keyboard base, and sometimes a Bluetooth mouse (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are always on).

    Please help!!
