I have an Aspire M3970 with a i3-2100 CPU. I want to upgrade to the most powerful CPU as possible without updating my motherboard. There is a BIOS version (P03.A3) that supports Ivy Bridge. If I flash my BIOS with that verzion, will I be able to run an i5-3570? If so, I suppose I should flash the BIOS and then intall the new CPU, correct?

Yes, you should flash the bios before you replace the CPU.
If the bios supports it and the chipset supports it, then it should work.
Download CPUz and find out what your chipset is and see if it supports Ivt Bridge.

I am going to need to do the same thing. It Looks like my i3 has just gone out on one of my computers. I am only running 8.1 on it so I don't care if it stays the i3 2100 really. But I think I need to replace my 2100 before I do an upgrade incase it is a bad MOTHER BOARD.
Starting to think I have to many computers lol.... A few are starting to show signs of ware... I will keep an eye on your thread and see how your upgrade goes..

Well i got a i5-2320 SB, and when i try to update to the latest ivy bridge update it will just say size to big. getting a new mobo ontop of everything else... TY acer
You might wanna CLEARIFY the bios update with what that actually works with. I've put in my serial number, and that update still comes up and i still cant update it. That will teach me to buy another acer machine i guess
MSI bla bla model where it works, gonna chuck the acer predator "teenage" case next.
