Assistance with wired internet
Hello,
I just purchased an ACER AXC-603G-UW13 desktop. I am having trouble keeping wired connection. Initially it works, and then drops connection.
When I first got the computer it worked fine. Then I added a netgear wireless USB and noticed after that that it would drop connection. Researched, something about priorities given to faster web connection. SO deleted wireless driver and downloaded latest driver from this site for LAN. Initially it worked and dropped again. I am on wireless card again to write this. I have most recent driver for wireless card.
I need help with two problems:
1) Fix LAN so connection is steady
2) Fix so I can use both my wired and wireless (of course not at same time!)
Thanks in advance for your help.

installed OS?
have a look at your ethernet cable and also try another port on your router.

i can't access the support page for ou model but...
try this:
windows key logo + x
select device manager
click on network adapter
double click on your wired network adapter
check if any power management tab is available, if so disable any power saving option.
click ok or apply, close device manager and try again.

So Hello Again IronFly and thanks for your help so far. Here's where we stand:
Unchecked the power save option.
Ran fine last night.
This a.m. used wireless connection first, then shutdown and plugged in cable internet.
The system came up with internet, but again the connection dropped.
I noticed that the modem seemed to be cycling on and off which is why it dropped.
The cable and modem worked fine with my laptop which i tried next.
Thoughts?
Thanks for your help in advance

that's strange.
are you sure that your model doesn't have an integrated wifi card? (so no need to add the USB netgear adapter)

No it did not come with integrated wifi card. I googled some more and apparently this is quite an issue and may have to do with device settings -- which ones i am not sure!

you don't have too much to set on your ethernet controller if your modem/router acts also as DHCP server, so IP and other things are managed by modem.
the on/off lights on modem are not good and if this happen only with the desktop, there's something wrong on the ethernet link.
honestly, if even the ethernet cable works on your laptop, i would try a new one.

I think I found the solution! You were on track with wireless card -- I found this article:
http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/change-connection-priority-windows
About internet priorities ... I used a wifi adapter and it does have a driver which shows in device manager. Per this article I changed the priority to ethernet first and viola it is up and running -- for about 10 minutes now. I think this is solved now... but give it a few hours before closing ticket just to make sure it is stable. But so far so good.
Thanks for your help!

Good to hear it, let me know if it worked.

DId not work! Somehow it became unstable. I do not think it is the cable. Cable is brand new and works fine with my old laptop on wired.
I think it has something to do with the device settings for the ethernet card that keeps causing the disconnect.

try this:
on device manager, network adapter, double click realtek network adapter, choose advanced tab and then choose this settings
Auto Disable Gigabit > Relink Battery or AC
Green Ethernet > Disable
Energy Efficient Ethernet > DisableI'm not an Acer employee.0 -
Hi again,
Tried your suggestions plus some others and no luck. Checked this article and we went down the entire list and did not fix.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/cant-connect-to-network#1TC=windows-8
Since the connection did work initially for at least the 1st week I can only conclude that some of the updates to Windows 8.1 are conflicting with it. This is a HUGE problem from googling this -- many users with all types of hardware having same issue. Windows 8.1 just not good. So I am going to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 and see if that resolves it.
Thanks for all your help and for sticking with me. I'll let you know what happens with the 10 upgrade.
