Hello, I got an Acer ASPIRE 5750g laptop, and I want to upgrade my RAM (I got 4gb RAM, and it supports up to 8gb). What kind of RAM should I buy? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Specs: I7-2630QM (2.0 GHz), GeForce GT 540M, 4GB DD3 Memory Installed, runs in 1333 MHz

    Yes it's correct: Your laptop supports up to 8Gb - DDR3 - 1333MHz (2x4Gb - Windows-64 bit).

Here is a compatible memory module (27EUR per piece):

Kingston and click on Where to buy. May be you can buy in your Kingston online shop [Buy] button.

  • Hello,

    Do you have 2x2Gb?

Yes I do. I reckoned, in order to upgrade my RAM to 8gb I should buy 2X4GB, at 1333 MHz. Am I correct? And do I need to look for something else in order to be compatible with my laptop?

Question, could the OP also use 1600mhz RAM as well, knowing it would run at 1333?

  • Hello thurgood,

    1. Sorry what do you mean by OP? Other processor?
    2. Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

Sorry, "OP" is forum slang for the "Original Poster".

I personally am using an Aspire 5742 laptop which is "standarized" for ddr3 1066Mhz memory, (204 pin) however my laptop is running fine with 2x2gb of 1333Mhz memory. It runs at 1066Mhz, but with lower CAS latencies, which is nice. (I was actually thinking of upgrading to 2x4gb 1600Mhz memory, but not sure if it will give the same result). Anyhow, that is why I mentioned it in this thread.

Just for the record, it can't run at 1333 since the HM55 chipset appears to only support 1066. As well, I picked up the following information:

1600Mhz memories can operate at 1333Mhz or 1066Mhz, but it depends on the chipset.

The problem is that the HM55 chipset does not recognize modules organized 512Mx8bits ... having a limit of 256Mx8bits.

So the memory module  will need to be 16 tablets 256Mx8bits, otherwise it will not work.

    That's why the HM55 chipset has a maximum of 8GB memory = 2x ((256Mx8bits) x 16) = 2x 4Gb.
