Windows 10 Recovery Drive

Hello. I bought Aspire VN7-591G last week. It came with windows 8.1 and an acer program which could back up the OS with factory settings to a USB flash drive. But I didn't have a 32gb flash drive so I ordered one on Amazon. In the meantime, the update of windows 10 was installed on my Laptop. with it, the acer back-up application diassapeared. Now the windows 10 itself has a "create restore drive" option.
My question is, is that the same thing as the windows 8.1 acer recovery app? And if so, which OS will it back up, windows 8 or windows 10? I mean, I know there are hidden Recovery Partitions. They were there when windows 8.1 was installed and that's what the program would back up, presumably. And did the upgrade to windows 10 rewrite those partitions as well? or did they just become obsolete and windows backs up differently?

In short: when I make a recovery drive now, what will it recover: Windows 8.1 or Windows 10?

the windows software is the same used by Acer erecovery to create recovery media.

so you can use it but it will have windows 8.1, since your laptop had windows 8.1 from factory.

Thank you. That's what I wanted, actually. So, when I make a recovery drive, I can the remove windows.old folder, since I can do the same thing with my drive, right?
And could I also remove those recovery partitions, since I won't be needing them anymore? If yes, how?

yes, you can delete windows.old that was you previos OS installation.

about deleting partition, yes you can do it but.....be 100000000% sure that USB recovery media works and has windows 8.

windows 10 is giving some headache on resetting/recovery OS.

    this is how:

boot from the USB recovery media

    choose repair computer

    then troubleshoot

    advanced options

    command prompt

    once in command prompt

    type

    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean

then exit and reboot from your USB recovery media and go to installation.

Also, when you look at the size of your recovery drive, it should be around 16 GB plus or minus of used space.  If you only see 4 or 5 GB of used space, then you know it didn't copy windows 8 recovery partition.

Just to clarify: Windows 10 REALLY doesn't need those partitions, right? I will be able to use Windows 10-s "Refresh the PC" etc options, right?

I try to remove the Windows-old folder, and it tells me I need to have admin rights, but I'm already an admin, what gives?  Now what?

I'm not trying to delete the recovery partition on the hard drive (which has the old Windows 8.0), I'm just trying to update it to be the new fresh install of Windows 10, so if I have to recover again, it doesn't take me back to 8.0, but takes me back to this fresh install of Windows 10.

How is that accomplished.  Again, I don't want to use the USB drive recover method, I want to update my 8.0 partition to be 10.

    Is that possible?

the old windows folder can be delete from windows Disk cleanup progam.

you can't update the Acer recovery partition from windows 8 to windows 10, by the way doing a reset from windows 10 will retain windows 10.

My V17 came with Win 8.1 and it took me 6-8 tries to get it updated to Win 10. I hated 8.1. I finally had to purchase a USB stick from Acer to restore 8.1 and that OS was different from as-delivered (less bloat installed on the desktop) but _then_ I was able to update to 10 used the Win 10 Assitive install. Hope I never have to go back! I bought a 1tb external and keep a current total backup on that, also PITA.
