Hi All,

I'm looking at the S3-392G for a new laptop but i'm concerned 4Gb ram isnt enough (Light CAD use expected) can anyone put to death the rumors about a Ram Slot? half reviews say no slot, all soldered, the other half say one slot is replaceable, giving max memory up to 10gb...

Presumably an SSD upgrade is nothing to worry about too...

Would really appreciate any help! if its all soldered it might be a dealbreaker!

Thanks

    Hello Mike,

    Sorry for the delay.

    Aspire S3-392G-54204G50TWS supports up to 10Gb - DDR3L - 1600MHz (2Gb onboard + 1x8Gb).

    1- The original memory modules:

    Spoiler
    KN.4GB07.008SODIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.KINGSTON
    KN.4GB09.008SODIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.ELPIDA
    KN.4GB0G.022SODIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.HYNIX
    KN.8GB07.005SODIMM.8GB.DDR3L-1600.KINGSTON

    2- The compatible memory modules:

    Crucial

Crucial and Elpida belong to the Micron group (same memory).

    For your information:

Aspire S3-392G series own 2 or 4Gb memory onboard (depend of the model) and the maximum is 10 or 12Gb.

This is the module suggested by Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/aspire-s3-392g/CT6095947#productDetails

    It is a 4GB module.

Is it possible to use one 8GB module like the following one?

    http://www.crucial.com/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10151&categoryId=&productId=11499

    Thank you for the help

Hi Laurent_14, so you're saying the memory in all Aspire S3-392G laptops can be upgraded, even this one? S3-392G-54214G52tws (with 4GB soldered memory)

I assume nothing else needs to be done (like BIOS flash) to ensure this bigger memory will work correctly?

It does seem like a big job > "You need to remove the Lower Case, Remove the Battery Pack and  HDD Module,  Detach the touchpad cable, Remove the fan, Release the WLAN antenna cables. Gently turn the mainboard over to access the bottom side of the mainboard. Insert the memory module into the DIMM slot and then press it down until it locks into place."

    Thanks in advance!

Your Aspire S3-392G has one SO-DIMM socket that supports a DDR3L-RS 1600 ram stick. It can be up to 8GB in size (2, 4, 8) which should give you the 12GB you wish. It is a big job, because the socket is on the bottom of the MB, requiring MB removal to access.
